Exercise can help, as can fish oil, and other things with omega-3. If there is a seasonal component, make sure to spend enough time outside in the sunlight. This is a good time to make sure you have a strong support system as well. Best of luck .

Well I read through a few of these and saw someone post that depression is your fault. Hmm, that's news to me. I suffer from depression. I can tell you this I don't choose it. I think most would choose not to be depressed it just is how it is. It's obvious that someone that says that doesn't understand. I think to say it's the individuals fault that they're depressed is just an ignorant comment. But that's just me.

I have a good friend with severe depression, she will end up inside her apartment and not talk to anyone for months on end. It's sad and I hope she comes out of it soon.

As someone who is pre-menopausal, I found the hormones weren't helping and so I went for a more natural approach. I started 5HTP about 5 months ago and swear by it. It keeps the moods down and me much more even keel. You can get it at any health food store or upscale grocery store that carries supplements. I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. And then sometimes I'll take 2 during the day when I feel a "moment" coming on....

I am post menopausal and I will say that hormones have been a huge, huge help for me! I use bio-identical estradiol and prometrium and will continue to as long as I need it. It is not for everyone, but it has sure made a difference in my life...

My dad had depression too, and it wasn't until they adjusted his medication to the proper amount that he started showing improvement.
