I am shocked with that poll on the front page.. 50% of people checked "why not" or "maybe so"

    ebelle5, I?m surprised. Did anyone read http://www.ebelle5.com/counterfeits/

I know people are like... it?s just a purse, who cares, it?s not hurting anyone.
Wrong? Do people not realize it hurts the designers labels, encourages child labor/sweatshops, and hurts our economy. (my opinion)

I read the very interesting info regarding how to determine fake bags. Do you have same info for Kate Spade purses or know of a site that can explain it as well as you did?

chanel_21, That is a good site. Thank you. Another thought - The article about counterfeiting mentioned hurting the US economy and providing work for the worlds sweatshops. It seems to me that the so called designers and/or manufacturers mostly have their merchandise made in those sweatshops so as to allow their very tidy profits, so they are the ones that create the problem in the first place!!! No?? And another thing - The average gal does not and/or will not take the considerable amount of time to do the research and acquire the quagmire of knowledge to prevent them from purchasing the counterfeits. I think it is just plain economics. Many, if not most, ladies do not need a purse, that costs a few hundred or more dollars, to last very long. They want something relatively new frequently. They can and do buy for NOW and at the lower price. They are in to quantity instead of quality. Do you really want a purse to last forever? It is going out of style in a year or so. Just my thoughts/opinions. Talk to me.

Hey fifi! When you say "so-called" designers, are you referring to designers such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, ect.? I was under the assumption that they didn't use sweatshops. Also that most of their items are made from the highest quality items? I mean, I have never seen a replica made out of ostrich, crocodile, oxen, goat, tigers eye stones, ect. Most that I ever see are made out of plastic. I am not going to lie; I have had a fake designer purse before. My first purse in fact was a fake Burberry Barrel bag, but that was before I knew anything about designer bags.

I definitely agree with you on your point about quantity over quality :) ! However, if I can't afford a new designer handbag, i will just by one from the previous season, on sale :)

I fully agree with you fifi and I_adore_dior? woman want a good deal, most if not all do consider quantity over quality. I do. My opinion is that it's illegal for the sale of counterfeit items. The people who are producing these items that look like the real deal are copying these designers logos. That is illegal. For those who can?t afford a coach, louis vuitton, or prada handbag, they can shop at an outlet store, or on sale. Manufacturers are aloud to produce handbags that fall under the Artistic License. Simular but not identical.
For those who don't care about the label.... or if women want something new and frequent, like me :) then i like to browse around on different sites or blogs to find good a deal on stylish bags.
    hope to hear back! :D

'dior, your point re: material used is valid, but, the labor is still borne in the "sweatshops" . I guess that could lead to another problem. The tree huggers protested the use of fur right out of the market place, so now its all 'faux' fur. At some point, if not already -I live a sheltered life and may not have heard - there will be a protest/boycott of animal skins being harvested for the sole purpose of furnishing 'fashionable' expensive (read profitable) accessories ie; purses, shoes, boots, etc....Then, and even now, we have fau snakeskin, aligator skin and others. That is fake isn't it? So it seems that it just boils down to whose pocket the bucks are going into, eh?

Fifi - Totally disagree with you! First off, designer purses are not for everyone. That is why the retail price tag is steep, so not everyone has the same bag. I mean really Fifi do you want to walk down the street carrying the ?it? bag of the season and see everyone else carrying the same bag? I think not. Oh but that?s an ?it? bag that may be out of style in a season or two. And you say ?Do you really want a purse to last forever?? Hell yes I do! Do you know a lot about premium designer handbags? I am not talking Coach, Dooney, Kate Spade, ect. I am referring to the classic designers such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, ect! Look back now, real far back, like in the 60?s every celebrity, or person well-off (much like today) had a Louis Vuitton Speedy, Classic Chanel flap, and / or a Hermes Birkin or Kelly bag. My grandmothers and aunts still have many of those bags that they have kept for years and still look sensational!

Well, yes of course women do buy ?for NOW at lower prices?, women like that shop the clearance rack. Nothing wrong with that. I have done that occasionally in the past, but you wont see me ever walking down the street with a replica knockoff or with some cheap walmart purse.

My main point is if you can?t afford the real thing, then those designer bags are not for you, don?t cheapen yourself by getting a replica.

    Default a good forgotten point

something i didn't see mentioned, counterfeit bags are illegal!!! i am stationed in spain right now and if i were to try to cross countries with a fake bag you will get arrested. especially in paris they are very strict about that. it is actually legal to make a citizen's arrest on someone who is in possession of a fake bag. i don't think people realize you can go to jail, if you are in possession of 2 or more fakes it is considered trafficking. this makes me so mad people and fake bags. if you can't afford it you just don't have one. if people like fakes so much why not put mercedes emblems on jettas? it's the same thing!!!

I am 100% DISGUSTED by fake bags! If you can't afford a real designer bag, why not get a cheap, cute bag from Target or something? With a fake bag, any designer bag lover can tell you are sporting a cheap knockoff and it makes you look stupid! NO ONE looks good with a fake. Yuck.

Oh it is highly illegal. However (sadly) this law is not enforced. The only reason why they are getting away with it here in Seattle is for the fact that they are not advertising "FAKE louis vuittons" they are "100% Grade A authentic louis vuitton" I walk past the same one every day and the guy that works there was talking to a big group of people who were actually believing his crap. I was like - 'you know these arent authentic right?' to one old little lady and she was like 'but they are my dear, look it has the lv logo and it says made in france'

Whats so hilarious (angry hilarious) is the fact that they are (in seattle) 1 block from nordstroms and 4 blocks from Louis Vuitton! I dont get it.

I dont mind seeing people with fakes, although i wouldnt be caught dead with one. We know it is an unstoppable vicious cycle but what can you do? It seems that the only way to stop people from owning fakes is to make owning one illegal like marijuana
