* Going to San Antonio, TX - any advice/suggestions*
Hi Ladies,
Planning to go on a vacation in a few weeks to San Antonio. Wanted to pick a place that was warm or i should say warmer than here!!
Never been to Texas before...any suggestions on things to see or do?
I already have Riverwalk and the Alamo on my list. Do not want to go to Sea world or Six Flags...been to too many theme parks
I love Western books and movies
, and was wondering if there is a ranch or someplace to visit, etc. Kid friendly things to do...
Any suggestions are appreciated... TIA

The RiverCenter Mall and the Alamo Quarry Market are must dos for shopping.
There is also a "mercado" that is a tradition in SA. There are restaurants/shops there. One of the restaurants is "Mi Tierra" which is very good.
You can take the kids to the IMAX theater in the RiverCenter Mall or up in the hemisphere tower that over looks the city.
As far as "western" themed stuff, there is Enchanted Springs Ranch just outside of town. I don't know their operating hours during the winter but you can look at their website at Enchanted Springs Ranch | San Antonio Attractions, Things to do in San Antonio
I can tell you some of the fun clubs...but I'm guessing your kids wouldn't like that
I hope this gives you a start. Are you going for Spring Break?

I love San Antonio! Def. hit the Alamo, the Mercado like Texlatina mentioned, you'll find great stuff there. Near the IMAX is the Ripleys Believe it or Not, your kids might like that place and as well as the Wax Museum. Rivercenter Mall is located at the riverwalk. Northstar Mall is my favorite mall, it's got everything, high end and low.

^^^ I TOTALLY forgot about the "Believe it or Not..." That's right in front of the Alamo I think. I loved it!!! There is also some shopping around the Alamo.
I also forgot about the San Antonio Zoo. That's fun and I think the kids would love it.

Teka Molina has awesome Mexican food and is across the street from Northstar Mall. They were going to close because the son didn't want to continue the business, but they may still be open. They have the most amazing authentic mexican food ever. We love Sea World and the Alamo. Riverwalk is okay, but not amazing. It's fun to have a meal while watching the world go by.

Thanks Texlatina, Viva, Mavey
... will definitely hit the shopping hot spots! I will also take the kids to the "Believe it or not Museum". Instead of the zoo, we planned to go to the Natural Spring (?!) or some such name. They have a an outdoor safari, which you can drive through to see animals in their natural setting. There are some caverns around there too. Anybody been there?
Clubs would be fun...but no go for this trip
I love Mexican food. Also, since i am a vegetarian, there are so many dishes where i can substitute beans for meat!
Texlatina, this is for "mid-winter" break. Schools here close for a week in Feb... don't ask ?!
Spring break is another week in April !!! We are thinking of going to Smokey Mountains for that! still planning!Always be kind to people on your way up, because you are sure to meet them on your way down

There are some caverns i think just outside of San Antonio too. They are really neat. hubby and i have just gone for the day a few times. They offer zip lining there too and i think a little panning for gold type of thing for the kids. Also there is a wildlife drive thru "safari" that was pretty neat too.

Re: * Going to San Antonio, TX - any advice/suggestions*
If you have a chance you might want to try the outlet malls in San Marcos, TX, which is really close to San Antonio. When I was in Austin/San Antonio, my brother & sister-in-law took me to the 2 outlet malls which are adjacent and are on Interstate Highway 35. I remember they had Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Neiman Marcus Last Call Clearance Center, Gucci, Fendi, Ed Hardy Outlet, Juicy Couture Outlet, etc, etc. I LOVED it.
I just googled them and they are the Prime Outlets and the Tanger Factory Outlet Center.
Not sure the kids will enjoy shopping though...."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." ~ Audrey Hepburn
