Sad The BF Got a Job

Well, the sad face is for a reason. I'll get to that...

So as some of you know, my bf had an internship last summer in NYC. It was with JP Morgan, and he had a great role there. For almost all interns, a job comes after they graduate, and get to start this program from which they interned. Well, the market crashed about a month after he got back, and the department he was in couldn't bring him on.

So he graduated in January and had been looking for a job for 8 months. He had some prospects with JP Morgan, but nothing ever came to be. Until about 3 weeks ago. They called and said they had an opportunity for him in NYC if he wanted it, which of course he did. They told him, "we need you here in 2 weeks."

The sad face is because he left a week ago. This job is a project job, so it's for an unspecified amount of time. I can't just leave my job and move up there because if this project is over in 6 months, we have to move home and then neither of us have jobs.

So basically it's just me and Lake. Bored. Missing Matt. We love each other and this doesn't change anything for us. We're just in two different cities.

Not sure how often I'll go up, or he'll come down, so I guess we'll just have to see.

Sorry about my sob sorry! Just needed to vent

I've never had to deal with a long distance relationship but I am sure that it would be hard. I am very sorry you are having to deal with this but I am a firm believer that all things happen for a reason and something good will come of this.

I personally haven't had to deal with the long distance thing, but my brother and my sil are going through it. He was offered a really great opportunity, but is all over the place, right now about 12 hours away from my sil. It's so hard for them. His next project will be a little closer, more like 7 hours away, so at least she can drive and see him on the weekends. He is working 6 days a week, so he doesn't get away much, but at least he is laid off for the winter months! They know if they just stick with it for a little while longer, they will be able to pay off their house they have now and build the house they have always wanted. Still, it's sucks for them in the meantime. Hang in there!

Aw, that makes me sad to hear! Hopefully you'll get to see each other often.

I did the long distance thing with my high school sweetheart during college. We didn't work out because we just grew a part. But I was away from him for four and half years, not including summer. Totally different, you know?

I'm sorry - long distance relationships can be so tough to get through. But the good news is that the job will help him get even more experience so maybe he can get a job closer to home once it's finished!

I don't really have a long distance relationship, since my boyfriend and I go to the same college. However, in the summer, he's in Boston while I'm in Los Angeles, so I totally know how rough it can be. Even if you can't see each other, you can talk every day! And it does get a little easier as the days go on - just try to stay busy during the day.

It's weird bc when he was gone last summer for 2 months we both were like "Oh, whatever, no biggie." This time is so different. We're both missing each other a ton. It's because we're not just in a relationship, we're best friends. We love to hang out with each other and have fun.

I hope he finds out soon how long the project is going to be. And, maybe they'll want him up there permanently so I can move up there.

Awww, That's bittersweet. Glad he got the job though. Think of it this way, It's only temporary and you still have your whole lives ahead to be together.

Oh Btw, I had a long distance relationship with this girl from Sweden for a whole year. Thank god for the internet and uhhh WC. LOL

Good Luck lilstrlett, don't worry, it will work out.

I got married after completing my first year of grad school. Within 1 week of getting married i went back to school and my DH was in a City 9 hours away. I could not transfer to a university there because i had already done too many credits towards my Masters and they would give me credit for only half on that. So we decided that i would continue where i was till i finished. We met each other once a month for the first year after our marriage. It was tough, but i think it brought us closer together

cheer up. keep an eye out for Cheap tickets to NYC

Aw! Seriously this story made me feel so much better! The whole reason for him taking this job is so that we can start our adult life together (even though we're 24 and 25). We want to get married and have kids in the next couple years, and hopefully this opportunity will let us do that very soon.

Don't worry lil! It'll all work out! Mr BRS's cousin did something sort of like this. She was finishing grad school and then she was offered a job in Washington DC. That's more than a day's drive from where they lived. Her husband couldn't stay with her because he is a professor at a University and he obviously didn't want to give up his job for something that was going to be temporary. So they flew back and forth for about a year and a half. Crazy, I know. But the job ended and she came back home and now she has a pretty spiffy job that she got because of her experience in DC. And they bought a house and pooped out a few kids and blah, blah, blah. LOL!
The point I'm trying to make is that it won't be forever. And even though it's hard, it's better to let him do it because he'll regret it if he doesn't.
