Default The economy and luxury desinger goods...

    Hi,

I was just reading my monthly "W" magazine and came across a very interesting article.

"Luxury shoppers are still keeping a tight grip on their designer wallets, and the high-end fashion houses are feeling the impact. In May Christian Lacroix filed for the French equivalent of Chapter 11 after seeing orders plummet by 35%. The designer said in a memo to his staff that he would give "200 percent" to keep his house intact, and at press time he planned to present a small couture collection at the July shows."

My question is how can they expect to stay in business when only 10% or less of people can afford their goods?? I frequent many different designer's boutiques and I must say that I think that the prices that they demand for their goods are ridiculous!! I have also heard that many designers, including Christian Louboutin and Vera Wang are designing "lower" end products that will appeal to more buyers. What do you think.....

I guess because the people who can afford nice things, will always be able to afford them. They're well off, and a "bad economy" isn't going to affect them.

Aside from what lilstrlett said, I find people tend to be very stubborn when it comes to luxuries. I hear a lot of people say, "I deserve it" or "I am rewarding myself for working hard", etc. It doesn't matter if we are in a recession- people will still find a way to buy their favorite luxuries. They might give up cable or take a more laid back vacation so they can keep buying their favorite luxury brands.
