Default Netbooks: What would you recommend?

I'm thinking of getting a netbook to use for school and such. I don't want anything expensive, just something lightweight for surfing the web and word processing. Does anyone have one? What would you recommend? I was looking at some by Asus at Best Buy today, but I don't know anything about that brand.

I have an HP mini and I really like it. Mine was more expensive because it's the limited edition Vivenne Tam one, but the plains one start at $279 on HP's website.. but you can probably get a cheaper one on another website.

My boyfriend has an Asus laptop, it's not really.. great. The battery life sucks. I think HP makes better ones.

I've looked at Asus ones that have a 7 and 9 hour battery life. Hmm... that's weird. So Asus is bad?

Here's the one I was looking at:
    Asus - Eee PC Netbook with Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 - Black - EPC1000HEB-BLK001X
This one is a Best Buy exclusive. The only real complaints I saw (aside from one person saying they got a dud) was that it doesn't have Blue Tooth. But I wouldn't really need that feature.

Asus is a good brand, bRs. My friend has an Asus computer...but it's not a netbook. Also, I would try to get more than 1GB.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919, I bought it in the middle of finals after my other computer crashed at Best Buy for 400 dollars. It has Windows Vista on it, so it's kind of slow for the memory (2 GB, I have no idea what that means, haha) it came with but I honestly don't use it much for anything other than Word, watching DVDs, and browsing the internet. It works perfectly for what I need it for.

Mr BRS thinks I should spend more money and get one that has Bluetooth. The ones at Best Buy that have the Bluetooth are much more expensive though. I found an Asus on Amazon that is $385, so only $35 more. But I worry about buying one online. At least if it came from Best Buy and there was a problem, I wouldn't have to hassle with shipping it somewhere. But... the whole idea was to get something cheap that I could just use at school (I have a large laptop at home). If something were to happen to it, then it wouldn't be a huge loss. KWIM?
Has anyone bought a computer from Amazon? It makes me nervous to do it since I don't like to buy any electronics online. You can too easily be deceived (e.g. says "brand new" and it's really refurbished).

I have an Asus eee pc, and I've had no probs with it. I was looking for the same thing, brs - just something to go on the internet and write stuff with. I got a cheap Asus eee running linux (not windows), and it came with open office so that was fine for editing Word docs. I forget which one I got, but it was definitely under $300...there are nicer ones that are more expensive than that, but at that point, it's no longer cheap and you might as well get a real laptop, kwim?

I've never bought a comp from amazon online, but I've bought from other places (tigerdirect). As long as it's new then you should be fine.
    Now on a BAN!

I think I'm going to get the one on Amazon that has the Bluetooth. It also has an awesome battery life (9 hours!!!). I am a little bit worried about ordering from Amazon, but I'm going to get the one that is actually coming from Amazon and not an independent seller. Thanks girls! The reviews say it's a good one, so I really hope it is!

Last week, the boyfriend bought me the HP Mini Netbook w/ 1GB memory and 60GB Hard drive. I love it, I have no complaints whatsoever, it's really light and very fast. It's not as pretty as Miss Cassandra's (your Vivienne Tam Netbook is beautiful) but I still it!

I use an HP dm1z netbook that has an 11" screen and dual core processor. Definitely been working out great and it's incredibly compact!
