I don't think there's such a thing as a typical budget. Every wedding is different & it all depends on where you're having it, how many guests you're having.. that sort of thing. But then again I don't know much about weddings, since I'm a wedding virgin!

    wishlist..

I have no experience with wedding in the States budget wise. But in my experience, even though it is one of the most wonderful and beautiful day in your life, you really shouldn't blow your budget on just one day. I've known couples who spent 50K+ for their wedding and regretted not saving part of it for other things that they needed later on...
After all, post wedding you have to factor in the honeymoon, where you'd staying, moving expenses, new furnitures etc etc. You're going to need a lot of moolah for all that.
Then again, if you've been saving up for this, then go for it!!

There isn't really a typical budget. It all depends on you and what you want. How elaborate you want to get. I wanted ours to be pretty small and simple, although once my mom got involved it became a little bigger than what I had imagined. You also need to decide what aspects you want to spend the money on. My dress was very important to me, and since I was buying it, I didn't really care how much I spent as long as I fell in love with it. So you just need to decide what you want and what's important to you!

^^ITA about deciding what's important to you and then budget accordingly. For my wedding, I put emphasis on the photographer and videographer. I kept thinking that these are only memories of the day that I'd have(aside from the one in my head) and I wanted the photos and DVD to be perfect

I'll have been married 25 years this summer.
In my view, don't let others make your decisions for you, this is YOUR wedding so make sure you don't lose control.
I felt my marriage was more important than the wedding and didn't want to start out married life in debt, so I kept my wedding very simple because I wanted to be comfortable, and I don't like being on display.
The only tip I have is to maybe pick your dress closer to the wedding, you may change your mind about the style, and you may change size too. I've seen brides-to-be lose too much weight to alter the dress right.
And huge congrats to you, you have really had an amazing year!

    OMG! Congrats Nicole!!!
Was it a total surprise or had he been hinting at it for awhile?

First thing you need to do is figure out where you'll be having the wedding ceremony and reception and book those places. If you're wanting something specific, it is best to book as soon as you can because some places get booked up over a year in advance. Once you have that done, then you can worry about everything else. LOL! Do give yourself enough time to find a dress though because it might take awhile to get it in if you have to order it and then you might need alterations. But if you want to save money on alterations, get one of those corset back dresses. That's what I did! As for budget, I think the average varies between different parts of the country. The average where I live is $20,000. I'm not sure how much we spent, but I know it was over $15,000. And yes, be prepared for some drama too! LOL! I don't know how many times my mom and I were screaming at each other when I was planning my wedding, but I think it was a lot! She forgave me though... I think.

Congrats on 25 years navymom! I agree with you. I was the same...very simple wedding. No bridezilla here. My hubby and I got married in Honolulu, Hawaii. We paid like $80 for the license and got married in front of an eternal flame with another couple who was getting married that day as our witnesses. That's all! And we were both wearing shorts and sandals! I've known people who spent $50,000+ but ended up in divorce.....

To iheartmjnicole my only advice is to do what makes you happy, but do remember it is only one day compared to the rest of your lives together. Hope I'm not being a bummer.
You can put your boots in the oven,
but that don't make em biscuits...
