Default Jimmy Choo Bakelite Magazine Clutch

Vintage-inspired clutch by artist Richard Phillips resembles a folded magazine cover.

    Find @ Saks Fifth Avenue
    $595

I really don't see the obsession with the new jimmy choo bakelite magazine clutches. They remind me of the cheap mag clutches that you find at any street vendor.

$595 For plastic? No thanks. Not to mention, they are really late following up on that trend. I prefer this semi-scandalous clutch courtesy of Patricia Field (Sex and the City's stylist). Only $74 but yes, just plastic.

The Jimmy Choo Bakelite Magazine Clutch bag is truly different and unique because of the magazine cover embedded on the clutch bag.

That clutch with "DIVA" on it looks nice.

lord knows i don't intend on ever spending $600 on a handbag again, especially a handbag that can barely accommodate my lipstick and debit card; but this jimmy had (and still has) me in a frenzy. other than the new burberry prorsum collections and hermes enamel bracelets, the magazine clutch is the only bit of designer that i covet daily.

in the defense of the purse, i must say, the history of bakelite will reveal to you that it is much more than just plastic. bakelite accessories from the 50's and 60's can fetch a pretty penny nowadays: there is even a method for testing your bakelite duds to ensure that they are not "fakelite". google bakelite and check out some of the articles or watch related clips on youtube to learn more.

who knows....could be that 50 years from know, that clutch is worth double it's asking price!
