    I am not married or engaged, but here is my promise ring. I've been with my BF for six years and eight months and this is the promise ring that he got me, I've been wearing it for two years already.

    Perhaps it's just a way for jewelers to make additional money. They're given as pre-engagement, chastity/purity, monogamy, or any other promise that couples and parents (for their children) signify. My boyfriend just gave me one on his birthday (Sunday).
