Default Rolex Ladies DateJust in Two Tone.... The perfect upper middle class piece.

    Hello,
You know when you see a newish BMW 5 series or a Mercedes E Class that the person is Upper Middle Class. In the watch world the Rolex DateJust is the same.

My wife is a Registered Nurse in a Children's Hospice so the Rolex President with double diamonds is a little off putting..... however as an everyday work watch the 2 Tone DateJust is ideal. Waterproof, Classic, Long lasting and very Upper Middle Class.

We choose the 2 tone model as the prices on the used market are similar to the all steel model. 2 Tone is a thing that comes into fashion every cycle. 2 Tone is class without being over the top.

We choose an Ivory dial with Romans as diamonds would push it too far to the flashy side of the equation! Diamonds are great but this is an everyday watch for a Registered Nurse. Discreet is the key. Professional but not too flashy.

I really love this watch and I have the mens equivilant in 2 tone (but with Diamonds!). I can justify the diamonds as I do not yet have a solid Gold Rolex President! So I can say the diamonds make up for that fact. NO SIR - the wife is not the one with the money! I PAID FOR EVERYTHING.... I just put her before me! Also I have already owned a few 18K President's in the past - sold to pay bills many years ago. I will get a President later.... but I love to spoil my lady first. I suspect I am not easy to live with at times... so she deserves all she gets!

Of course I bought it second hand. I paid US$2600- for it.
It is from the mid 90s.

    Lovely piece.

Oh, I just thought maybe it was something you've had for a long time. It's a very nice looking watch. I would probably prefer something a little more dainty, myself. But I could see someone getting a lot of use out of this watch, especially since it's two-tone.

So where do you look for all your deals? Estate auctions? Consignment shops? Ebay?

I have a response... that's a very poor fake. I hope you're not surprised to read that.

^^^ I know nothing about Rolex watches. Could you point out what's wrong with this watch for us?

    1. In the early 1980s Rolex introduced a sapphire crystal which is almost impermeable to scratches. This piece has an acrylic crystal which is scratched as you can see in the closeup.

    2. The date magnification bubble is "lopsided" (does not line up with the edges of the date wheel).

    3. The date wheel is not properly aligned within the window which it would be when the time is set at 9:00 and the crown is fully screwed down. The number would be centered.

    4. The minute hand and the second hands are typically not the same length on a Rolex watch. I'm not sure about that on this model, however, so that may be correct. However, the second hand should always touch the "ticks," which it does not.

    5. The date magnification power is incorrect.

I can see what you're saying about the magnification and the alignment of the date inside the windows, after looking at some known-authentic watches. I'm not sure if the bubble is lopsided or if it is the picture angle. As for the other things, I wouldn't have any clue if they are consistent with this particular style or not.
So do you know of any detailed guides for spotting fake Rolex watches? Since this is a handbag forum, most of us are only familiar with what to look for in handbags where authenticity is concerned.
