^ I would think his method would work. I mean it makes sense - if someone's about to drop $3-4K on accessories/scarves, and wants a birkin and there are some in the back, I think the SA would want to get the sale and so offer the birkin to the person, right?

Anyone with $10K to spare who wants to try this out? lol

Birkins have always been in fairly limited supply, so they are offered first to known clients who may be interested.
If no store clients have expressed interest in a bag it's possible to buy a Birkin, without spending thousands on other items first.
People are lucky sometimes.

Perhaps where you are, birkins are limited, but not in my experience. They are sitting on the shelf in BH, NYC. The market is over glutted. With normal leather birkins. Exotics are another story.
