Default Hermes Bag Question...

I'm starting to like Hermes... I want a Birkin bag! I don't know much about Hermes... I know I sound like a dork.. I'm a Fashion Major and I'm trying to learn every designer out there... get's hard... BUT... is it true there are waiting lists like 2 years long to get a Birkin bag. I know a Birkin bag takes about 6 months of development to make... but a 2 year waiting list? Is every Birkin in every color a 2 year waiting list? That's just insane!

Default Re: Question...

It is well worth the wait! Please don't buy one off of Ebay. How can any of the internet sellers of Hermes bags get them any quicker than Hermes can produce and offer themselves? The truth is that they cannot. A friend of mine recently opened my eyes to the replica industry and how illogic it would be to have a large inventory of Hermes handbags. Take a good look at the inventory of some Ebay powersellers. Some of them would have to invest more than a million dollars to acquire their bags. They would have to travel constantly to acquire their inventory because no local Hermes shop could supply them. Look at the feedback of the biggest Ebay seller of "Hermes." She purchased a roll of Hermes ribbon from a seller who is no longer a registered user. Hermes does not sell their ribbon in rolls. And don't let receipts fool you. There is a whole industry of designer handbag receipts as well. She also does not charge sales tax for her state. With her income, her state and the IRS should be taking notice. She cannot charge tax because she would have to provide documentation for her inventory. There is too much that does not add up about Ebay and internet sellers (aside from Net-a-Porter and ELuxury.com).
I asked my friend why Ebay doesn't shut these people down. She said that Ebay will shut down some of the small sellers just to make a show of enforcing their VERO policies, but they let the big operators continue because of the huge final value and insertions fees they receive.
There is more panache' in saying you're on Hermes' waiting list than in saying you got a Birkin off of Ebay or the Internet. Also, you have the Hermes warrantee!!! No Ebay seller, regardless of feedback or money back offers or THEIR warrantee or their own website independent of Ebay, can offer the Hermes warrantee.
Anybody is free to prove me wrong and rebut my assertations point-by-point, but I won't get into an argument.
You'll appreciate your Birkin even more when your waiting is up! I love mine!

I find the SA at hermes to be extreamly b*tchy, I'm positive i would like hte stuff more and acctually *Gasp* make a purchase if they were nicer and acctually cared about their customers! argh! There are 2 sa at my store which constantly whisper, point and snigger whenever i shop there, it makes me really nervous and it make sme not want to look at their stuff, i allways feel they are bitching about me! And everything is unattainable to them, i wanted a friggin belt but that wayyy too much to ask you know a croc diamond birkin is much more easily attained!

Hello, Juicy
Mine's a black Birkin. I love how durable the leather is and how I don't have to worry when I set it on the floor at a restaurant (although it gets its own chair whenever possible!). Thanks!

Alessa, I know nothing about purchasing a Hermes so please excuse me for asking . . how much did you pay for your bag? Is it true that if you were to go to the Hermes store and get on the 2-6 year waiting list then you pay about 5-6k for the basic bag, but if you were to go to eBay (no waiting list) you will probably an up paying 2k+ for a basic bag.

By the way, I love your bag. Someday

Hi,
That's ok. I had to ask around before I bought mine. I paid over $10,000 for it.
I sincerely believe that you will get the very same bag off of Ebay, regardless of whether you spend $2,000 or $13,500. If you really want to buy one from an Ebay seller, get tons of photos from both the lower and higher-priced bags, and compare them. Ask for the receipt. Also, get a money-back guarantee.
Ask yourself this question: How does an Ebay seller with a million-dollar inventory get such a huge inventory, given the waiting list?

there are two or three really good Hermes only ebay sellers, but since they offer so much secrity with thier bags they charge a few extra grand more than the retail price, personally i think its more fun to try and get it from a hermes shop, birkins arent that hard to get there is usually allways at least one in store, if your desperate and the color/leather combination doesnt bother you its really quite easy to get a hold of. obviously some leathers and colors in more demand than others so they are harder to get a hold of i.e. black, chocolates and golds

I bought it in Rome. I'm pasting in an e-mail I received in response to a direct inquiry about the biggest Ebay seller of "Hermes". I know I am sounding like a spoilsport, but this gentleman could be a resource when trying to verify the authenticity of an item.

"Thank you for visiting Hermes.com.

Hermès can only guarantee authenticity of items purchased from an authorized
Hermès boutique. Please understand that Hermès has no affiliation with eBay nor
any of its sellers. It is highly likely that most Hermès items listed on eBay
are not authentic. Counterfeit merchandise is against the law and Hermès takes
no responsibility for items sold on eBay.
If you are interested in purchasing an authentic Hermès piece, please visit one
of our licensed boutiques located worldwide.
To find the boutique nearest you, log onto HERMÈS™ scarf, tie and fragrance and click on 'Store.'

Again, thank you for your interest in Hermès.
We look forward to your next visit with us.
