I don't think you can really authenticate one remotely... you'd kinda have to be able to feel the material used, look at the stitching seams, check serial number (some do have them, some don't), etc. I guess you could contact the true company and ask if there are some ways you can help tell if someone sold you a fake one on like ebay or something.

I do believe there are people who can authentcate these type of bags,i am gonna try the main dealer of hermes birkins on ebay,thank you for your reply,its funny cos i keep smelling the bag and i keep thinking why am i smelling the bag cos i dont know what they should smell off lol
has anyone ever smelt one like this before ?
and if you are too worried to authenticate it,i would like anyones opinion on it and what is the full proper name of this one?
Because of the high profile of the Hermès brand and the high prices attached to their products, there is a significant amount of counterfeit Hermès merchandise produced and sold, some of which ends up on online retail and auction websites such as eBay.
Authenticity can sometimes be determined by the presence of these characteristics:
* Appropriate pricing - a Birkin in any vendable condition will never sell for less than 50% of its original value.
* Even stitching
* Gilt or blind stamped in the front face under the tap: "Hermès Paris, Made in France"
* Craftsman's marks and letter year of manufacture stamped in a square underside of right belt. The year of manufacture should be consistent with condition and history of bag
* Interior leather zipper tag parallel with zipper hardware, not perpendicular
* Feel of superior leather. The touch and weight of fine leather are not easily duplicated.
Do not buy the bag. You will not be happy. The bag is missing parts. Re-sale value have gone down due to the missing part. Hermes will not tell you if it is real or not.
The Hermes Birkin is about the only bag that will gain in value,especially the croc,
If you say dont buy the bag cos of missing parts then you do think the bag is real,
So Steven in your opinion what would the bag be worth if all the parts are on it as you say and how much would you say it would decrease in value if you dont have the parts you are referring to cheers John
Hi, I may be new, but I am a longtime member of The Purse Forum and I can tell you that the bag is not real. But if the person selling it will let you, you could take it to the Hermes store and ask them to tell you how much it would be to replace the lock stem that is missing. If it is real they will give you a price, but if it isn't, they will tell you they only work on their own bags. From the pictures though, I am pretty sure it's a fake. Sorry, I hope you didn't buy it.
