    Default Really confusing afternoon...

There was a woman selling fake Coach, LV, Chanel and Burberry bags. They were blatent copies and had all the labels. I walked over to a LV BH and started really looking at it. My 6 year old says, "Mommy, I love that bag! It look just like yours. We could match." I told her that it was a fake bag and mommy would never buy a fake bag for her or anyone else. So then the woman comes over and asks me if I like the bag. I didn't say anything right away and so my daughter pipes in with "mommy only buys real bags, yours are fake".
She asked me what brand I was carrying (it's my black Bal day). I told her. She gets this uppity look on her face and says, "never heard of it." I said "You have to go to Barney's to buy my bag". She laughed and said I was crazy for spending that kind of money on a bag. I then told her the workmanship was impressive on the bag I was holding but that it was illegal to sell fake bags. She said it wasn't because she isn't selling the bags like they are real and people know they are buying knock-offs. What?????
So I smiled, told her good luck, and headed over to the police booth. St. Voigt was on duty. I asked him what the law was on selling fake bags and he told me the same thing she did. So the bag is absolutely like the LV bag I have. It has the storage bag, the labeling, everything is the same. And they are saying it isn't illegal to sell. I don't get it.

    Idea Re: Really confusing afternoon...

OMG! What a nut job! Everyone is just out to make money right now or complain about something aren't they? I wouldn't feel right "stealing" the look of an authentic handbag. I don't know how she sleeps at night?

Well, it must have been "freak" day out there! So I was at work for my usual 12 hours today and this lady walks by with her young daughter. Her daughter couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 yrs. old. I asked the lady if she was finding everything okay and she stated "yes" in a very hesitant manner. I then said, are you sure? She then proceeds to freak out because we have this Christmas music endcap and it's playing Christmas songs. Okay...really???? Because I made the decision to put that out? ME....yup, I did it. It was all me, nothing to do with the BIG FORTUNE 500 COMPANY I work for huh? Yeah, no way would they send me a large display with Christmas music.....never. Anyway, she finished off with how disgusted she was (people are watching at this point) and I'm giving her the best service possible, apologizing and the whole nine! What a horrible example for her daughter as well!

As she leaves the area this elderly woman who stopped to watch the freak out session turned to me and in an extremely (I don't give a darn) voice said, "well, it must be nice to not have worry about gas money, healthcare, a job, retirement funds, who our next President will be, just pick one because if all I had to worry about was darn Christmas music right now I would be happy about it!" The "complainer" heard her, turned around and rolled her eyes, dragging her daughter by the arm, I'm assuming because she was embarrassed at that point.

    It was priceless!

I probably just posted this in the wrong forum but I had to agree with you that today was a very confusing today!

I mean, honestly, the only people who care about replica bags are the people who own, sell, and make, the real thing. You can't make anyone understand your personal viepoint on things, because they never will. Drug dealers sell drugs, and that's illegal, but if you told one of them that it was, they wouldn't care. Just like this lady doesn't care she's selling replica merchandise. The security guard doesn't care bc she's not hurting anyone, just selling merchandise, even if it is illegal.

Maevey, children are always so honest aren't they? That's so cute and funny. That's something that my 5 year old would have said too.
I can't believe that cop said it wasn't illegal to sell fake handbags. Maybe he said that because it's more trouble than it's worth..to him...to shut down her stand only for her to open it up a few feet away or another shopping plaza. Around where I live, they don't care either. When we were at the Flea Market last weekend, they were patrolling around and one even commented that he has to tell his wife that the fake handbag stand had some new stuff this weekend. And atleast she wasn't blowing his money on the real deal. So, they don't really care at all.

Done...I think...Until I find something that catches my eye

Wow, but I don't think these sellers understand what horrors people in third world countries go though to make a fake. I am glad you gave a good example to your daughter.

I am really getting tired of people selling and BUYING fake bags. I could rant on and on about it! The whole "well I know its fake" line is really getting old. Something needs to be done about this!

You're completely right!! I think the authorities should pay more attention to this, they're all against people buying copied DVDs and downloading illegal music on the net, so what is the difference with bags? It's really unfair because people spend a heck of a lot more on a LV, Chanel, Prada or other authentic designer bags as opposed to a legal DVD. Surely they could do something about it quite easily?

It's easier to turn your back then to just take a stand.
On the other hand I took an article in to a lady I know who sells replica's - she told me she is going to stop selling them, she had no idea of the young girls in the factories, the funding of terrorists
AND as she is getting familiar with the real bags, she says the fakes are crappy looking and it embarrasses her to look at them now.
