Default How are they getting away with this?

When i was at the mall, last week i noticed that at some of those stand-alone boutiques, they were selling fake handbags. Chanel, Coach and a few other designers, and i knew they were fake because for starters, they where between $99.00 and $120.00, and they where made out of this tacky pleather crap, that i wouldn't even use to line the bottom of my bird-cages (if i had birds that is). And another store in the mall is selling fake Chanel earrings and fake Gucci, Chanel and Givenchy sunglasses, and i can tell these are fakes because they're between $5.00 and $12.00, and say made in China right on the arms of the sunglasses. How are they getting away with this is what i'm wondering. Next time i'm in the mall, i think i'll ask them how they're getting away with selling fakes.

The mall near me had the same problem...you don't see the fakes there anymore though. If they were there again though, I would say something.

My local mall sells fake Fendi Spy's and fake Chanel Cambon bags in the self-standing stands as well... IDK why they haven't been fined or something...

they get away with it because no one calls the police. its illegal to sell fakes and all you have to do is call your local police and explain what is happening. they have special departments for it and you can call them directly also. i have done that about 3 times and they always get shut down and all their merchandise gets taken away. its insanely gratifying to watch it being done.

Why is it so gratifying? Are you glad that plastic purses are not floating around? Are you glad to be saving Louis Vuitton the embarrassment? Are you glad not to help fund wars...or whatever the list is for having fake bags. I need to understand why its so personal?
I dont think its right to buy fake bags but I am not sure that I would call the police. Normally I just walk up to the people who are interested in buying the stuff and I say right in front of the buyer and the seller, "you know that stuff is fake and [to the seller] you can go to jail for selling that stuff" and normally that puts a stop to it.
I think its hillarious to watch people march around in the $3000 chanel bag driving a bucket! I dont understand the point of buying a fake bag. Just get a cute leater bag from Target. Its real and it will last much longer...

i do it because selling fakes is illegal, just like selling drugs, also selling fakes supports terrorism and employee children to make the bags in horrible working conditions. just because its not as well popularized in the media, there is a large push towards cracking down on those selling fakes, and to me, turning them in is gratifying, just like whenever i report the fakes being sold on ebay....getting fakes off the market gives me a good feeling.

people who sell fakes know its illegal. havent you seen in NYC when the street vendors are selling their stuff they quickly cover it up with sheets and make it look like they are just pushing a cart when they see a cop. because without someone saying "hey this person is selling a fake" the police cannot go and do a probable cause search (i have a friend who is a cop and told me this).

oh and btw, not everyone who has expensive bags drives "buckets" .... i sure dont, i drive a new BMW.

I think maybe i'll call the police or the FBI. Not because it's satisfying, but because as one person pointed out they can fund terrorism, and they do fund child labor and child slavery and sweat shops. And i've seen people actually carrying those things.

This doesnt make sense? I said... "I dont understand why people who drive buckets would want a three thousand dollar fake purse." I dont think they realize the fake Chanel bag that they are trying to pass off as an authentic bag cost more than the cars that they drive. It would be more practical to spend a hundred bucks on a real leather bag than a couple of hundred on a fake plastic bag.
I DID NOT SAY that people who have exspensive bags drive buckets. That doesnt make any sense. Me and ALL of my girlfriends drive nice cars, not that you need to have a nice car to have a nice bag. So dont be insulted or take it personal, you just misread my comment.

I asked you why it was so personal to you because I dont think that its right to be spiteful or vengeful. I do think that it is right to do the right thing but I also feel that its fair to warn someone first, which is normally what I do. I guess I am that way because I am a mother and I would never chastise my son without giving him a stern warning first.

I see a million people in Houston walking around with fakes all the time and I often wonder why those people are not arrested if it is illegal? But the difference is I know a real from a fake, not everyone does. (And I only know the really bad fakes because from what I have seen since joining this forum, their are some really GOOD looking, hard to tell fake handbags.) Here in Houston a Sam's Club (subsidiary of Walmart) store was selling fake Prada bags. They were unaware that the bags were fake! That means that people were walking around with fake handbags with the intent of purchasing a real bag but unknown to the buyer, and in this case the seller, the bags were fake.

I think jail time and prison is pretty serious and unlike most of you savvy purse owners, most people are not as aware that purchasing a fake bag is illegal, whether intentional or unintentional.
I am sure that most people who purchase those bags dont get Harpers Bazaar or Vogue magazine and read the adds that describe how FAKES ARE NEVER IN FASHION and how making these purchases contributes to the list of growing attacks to our community.

In order to share this important message it is necessary to have compassion for the unknown consumer by sharing with them WHY its wrong to make the purchase.

You know what's funny, is that I was just up in NYC and we got off at the Canal Street stop because we were walking through the fashion district and the area, and there were cops standing out on the street where the people had their stores selling all the fake bags/sunglasses/etc. I asked my boyfriend how they got away with it with the cops standing right there, and he said they're more likely there to make sure no one steals anything, because their stuff is right out in the open.

As far as reporting the vendors in the mall, or wherever, I don't think I could ever go that far. It's not that I like what they're doing, but I just ignore it. Some people want to have a designer bag but can't afford the real thing, and that's their prerogative. I also don't think it's right for them to have a fake bag, but I'd rather put my time and energy into something else than reporting those who are buying/selling fake bags. Not that reporting them is wrong, just not something I choose to do.
