A unique bag is great... but feeling good about someone not being able to afford a bag you own, isn't.... I think that's what the negative feedback in here is about.

this is why i buy designer bags without any logos or crap. i have enough in my life to feel good about myself - no need to make others feel jealous over me (esp. over something as disposable as a bag).

screw being jealous over someone with a $40,000 bag - i'm more jealous over people who make under $30,000 a year and have a healthy life savings. that's wisdom that i'll hopefully acquire one day!

i've got my Coach bags, LV bags, Kooba bags, Gustto bags... but they are void of logos (...it's hard to avoid LV but I do have my Epi Leather which I love the most).

My family instilled me with the wisdom "people who truly have lots of money are smart enough to not flaunt it". We don't speak about our money or flaunt it - just occasionally buy splurge items.

Yup, I do especially if that bag is so unique, unbranded and cheap that you have to travel all the way to one place only to acquire it. And that high end bag buyers won't buy or get because it could definitely tarnish their reputation.

I buy bags because of their functionality may it be high end or low end it doesn't matter, as long as it serves its purpose and that is..... just being a BAG.

i'm with you susieq! everything you said plus -> this is why i end up not buying logo bags i like. (like coach signature bags that catch my attention because of the color and style or the contrast between the fabric and leather) ....because then ppl judge you based on that and they don't get to know me..... they either think i'm some rich girl....or others think i'm too poor.... or others think i like to show-off, etc.

Most people can't get as in cost or time spent hunting for an awesome bag?
Personally, I like being original. I like dressing my own style, doing my own thing. I've never liked conforming to the norm. So yes, I like not having the same purse as everyone else. And I certainly like the compliments when people ask where I got something or if it is vintage. Or just say they really like something I have on. In my past life I was a costumer/personal shopper and I loved dressed women in sexy and/or unique styles (things that accentuated their good points). I couldn't understand why they wanted to look exactly like someone else.

Actually I slightly agree with your first sentence...

Can't get, as in limited edition only a few released, yeah that's a good feeling. That's why people spend so much on a limited edition, right? Even if it's not the prettiest bag (louis vuitton tribute ) its a collectors piece.

Rare, expensive handbags are a wonderful thing to have. However, they are NOT the most important thing in life. Not even close.

i totally agree w/ you!! that's how my hubby thinks and instills to my mind, and lately, i'd rather buy non-designer than overly-logo ones. i love my simple, no logo ones., that's why the juicy is returned, now i only have a fave, my sis ann taylor croc leather bag she gave me.

Very Interesting .. I prefer unique bags that the whole world is not carrying..I don't think that this makes a person snobbish, it just means that they are very selective in their purchases and personal tastes..

Well, I love being different and unique. I won't wear anything that's overly popular and overrated. When it comes to my bags, I want what I want. I want to have nice bags and I'll admit that I like high end designer bags, but I know how to shop. When I want an expensive bag I wait until it goes on sale or I get a coupon. Then I feel REALLY good about it!! I never buy a bag because it will make others jealous, because if that's why you're buying a bag, it shows! You can tell when a snob walks by with their big Louis Vuitton and they look like a big B***h!!!!!
Everyone is here to make others feel good, compliment each other on new bags etc. We like all bags!!!!!

Wow this is a really old thread... almost wished it had stayed hidden bc of the snobby start of it.

I like having handbags, not for anyone else, but for myself. Like I told my friend today who works at LV, I don't care if someone thinks my bag is fake (we were talking about my WC Speedy), as long as I know it's real. The price tag doesn't mean a thing to me. It could cost $10, but it doesn't mean something that costs $2000 will make it better. My Chanel bag costs more than my Vernis LV, but I like it more bc of the color.

I dunno, just my opinion I guess.

I really don't think the OP meant to come off as snobby, and this is coming from a girl whose small bag collection consists only of several Coach purses that I love to death (and a D&B clutch...). I am also a reader of bagsnob.com though, and I know that those girls would not look twice at the Coach bags I own (which may in fact make them snobby... hence the name of their blog!). I think the OP just wanted to state that she prefers unique looks to mainstream brands like Coach. To each their own!

IMO, i think it's okay to show off or be proud of your acquisitions. i have no intention to make others feel less or jealous although i feel bad when they do. but i think it's entirely normal to desire to own an expensive bag, to admire, to become jealous. it's really up to the person how to handle it. i once thought i will not be able to own a LV and that coach bags will be the most expensive bag i will ever own. but i was wrong. now that i earn more, i can now afford to buy one and i'm proud of it. i love the bags i have may it be a coach or expensive designer bags. i carry my bags with pride and confidence knowing that i don't carry fakes. God bless everyone!
