Did you Know? Definition of an “It Bag”
Designer handbag fact of the day… ever wonder what the definition of an “It Bag” is? Wiki says the common term was coined in the 1990s with the explosive growth of the handbag market in fashion. Designers vied to produce one bag that would sell hundreds of thousands of units by becoming the bag "of the moment" -- a single handbag style that would spread like wildfire in popularity through the intertwined worlds of fashion and celebrity, aided by clever or just plain lucky marketing.
A small handful of designer handbags and purses that have been ranked “It Bag”:
The Hermes Birkin Bag
The Hermes Kelly Purse
The Balenciaga City Bag
The Botkier Bianca Satchel
The Chloe Edith Handbag
The Chloe Paddington Bag
The Fendi B Bag
The Fendi Spy Bag
The Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag
The Marc Jacobs Stam Bag
The Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag
The YSL Muse Purse
The YSL Downtown Tote

Re: Did you Know? Definition of an “It Bag”
Oh when reading this post, it made me think of a very good article in the French Elle in last june
(for the frenchs
Sacrés sacs ! - dossier ELLE - Sacrés sacs ! - Dossiers mode - Mode - Elle )
I was amazed to read that in 5 years, bags sale have augmented of 146% and represent 20% of luxury sales !!
I like the definition they give (even if they admit that sometimes it can't be false ...)
for the creation of an it bag : press, advertising, people, and high price
