    Default Python and other exotics

So obviously the new bag craze right now is exotics... along with many other wonderful trends... I personally have never bought an exotic, croc I could do, slithery things still waiting for that to grow on me....this being said I am not up to date on the rules of shipping exotics but noticed on line that anything Python etc. cant be sent to me... I am in California... anyone know if this is just a CA thing, or a standard shipping rule for all locale? Anyone know the reason why? I have a few guesses but not sure... This being said if I bought an exotic while traveling can I bring it back with me to CA?

    Here, I found this:

    Fashion Outlaws
Fashion conscious Californian's have the slither around to around to trap this springs trendiest shoes, bags, pants and jackets in python. Since 1970 the sale of python skin or parts has been outlawed. Importing or shipping products made from the endangered species into the state for commercial purposes is illegal. Violators face a maximum fine of $5,000 or a six-month accommodations in an unflattering orange jumpsuit at a county jail. Stylists and fashionistas have creatively come up with ways to acquire the goods. Some shoppers fly to Las Vegas, while one stylists orders directly from Gucci in Hawaii, which will mail it. It's legal to bring your own python across state lines, as long as you don't plan to sell it. California is the only state with a ban on all types of python, although only Indian python is on the endangered species list.

It should be outlawed everywhere! That and fur! I think it is deplorable to buy exotic skin or fur accessories!

it is "illegal" to purchase python skin and ship it to california. but its not illegal to own a bag in california made of this material.

Yeah, you can't be arrested for walking down the street carrying one. The law mostly applies to python being actually bought or sold in the state. So companies won't sell a python bag to someone in Cali because they would be breaking the law by selling to that person.

Thanks for all the great info...I was wondering what the deal was... and I do agree with the no fur or some of the exotics... dont own any myself... but for some reason the croc does not seem to bother me? Perhaps I stick with embossed if I buy one.. I am an animal lover, especially my little cat Tonic :) a silver and white persian...so the fur thing creeps me out, snake/python scares me and turns my stomache.. but again the croc thing... not sure why it does not bother me... I know it is an animal but never much thought about it... not any more than buying things in general that are leather... animal as well....regardless thank you for the great info...
