    Default Cleaning canvas bags

Is there a way to clean dirt off canvas bags, short of drycleaning? I don't want to take it to the drycleaners for fear of color fading (has anyone ever drycleaned a bag, and did it work)? Is hand-washing in Woolite effective?

So no one has ever cleaned a canvas bag? Would you toss an expensive canvas bag in the washing machine?

I've heard baby wipes and pencil erasers work pretty well.
