Thumbs up Care Tips: White Leather Handbags

Spring is just around the corner and I am sure you know what that means! With those warmer months come white (or pastel) handbags and soon they will be literally everywhere!

White handbags make a really bold statement and I have seen some gorgeous styles over the years. But they do have their drawbacks. The main one, of course, being the fact that they these handbags can quickly turn into stained nightmares.

Below are some quick tips to get you started!

Tip #1 - Prevention is Key
I simply cannot stress this enough! Prevention will go a long way in keeping your white handbag looking new. The biggest culprit of putting a damper on white leather is dark colored jeans. This is especially true for handheld styles because they tend to rub on your hip when you walk. Try using an optional shoulder strap to keep your handbag above your waist. Or simply avoid wearing dark jeans altogether. Also be mindful of where you are setting your handbag. Keep it off the floor or counter top by investing in a purse hanger.

    Tip #2 - Routine Cleaning
Rather than allowing your handbag to become noticeably soiled, try routinely cleaning it to prevent buildup. Experts suggest using a solution of 1 or 2 drops of baby wash in 1 cup of water. Carefully rub down your handbag with the solution using a microfiber cloth. Make sure to go with the grain of the leather and not to rub too hard. Since all leathers are different, be sure to do a spot test first in an inconspicuous location.

Tip #3 - Remove Stains with Caution
If it is a water-based stain, experts recommend using saddle soap. Use a microfiber cloth to gently blot saddle soap on the stain. Avoid rubbing too hard. Again, all leathers are different, so make sure to do a spot test first. If it is an oil-based stain or the leather is delicate, it is time to call a professional.
