    Default Handbag Consumer Research

Hi there...I am a MBA student doing consumer research on the accessories (handbag) industry for a new business concept. I have ten questions I am asking consumers to better understand consumer preferences when purchasing handbags. I'd really appreciate anyone taking 5-10 minutes to answer the questions below as part of my project.

    Thanks in advance!

    1) Why do you buy accessories? And how often?
It depends on the accessory. Sometimes it is just something I like or it is something I think will go with a certain outfit. I don't buy a lot of anything as much as I used to. But if you are counting all accessories, then I would guess once a month.

    2) How important is it that an accessory you own is unique, one-of-a-kind or very few of a kind?
It isn't terribly important. I'm not a gigantic fan of logos though. So if it is a fairly common logo-less piece, then I wouldn't mind it if others were floating around out there.

    3) How would you feel if you knew the handbag you just bought was the only handbag of that style and color combination that existed? Does that matter to you?
I suppose it would be kind of cool, but it doesn't matter that much. I might get tired of people asking what kind of bag it is over and over again. LOL!

    4) Is the traditional brick-and-mortar shopping experience for accessories important to you?
Not sure what you mean by brick-and-mortar. If you mean buying something in the store, then no that isn't always important. I mean, it is nice to look at something in person first. Some things aren't available where I live though, so I have bought stuff online.

    5) Do you use other ways to purchase accessories today, like the Internet?
    Yes.

    6) If you had a $300 to spend on either a mass-produced Coach or Hermes handbag you love or a personalized one-of-kind design from a relatively unknown brand, which would you pick given equal quality?
How does one answer this question? You are comparing a handbag that you could possibly buy for $300 to one that could cost as much as 100 times that amount! So let's just ignore the Hermes part. Again, I don't really care that much about one-of-a-kind designs. I do, however, like lesser known designers. So if I could apply the $300 toward a Rebecca Minkoff bag (for example), I would choose that over Coach.

    7) Is the idea of collaborating with an accessory designer on your handbag purchase interesting to you? Would you make a collaboration appointment if you had the option?
I actually did one of those customize your own bag things before and the result did not turn out as well as I had hoped. I ended up sending the bag back because I didn't like it and I had to order something else.

    8) For you, what evokes the emotion for an accessory when you say "I've gotta have that"?
Tassels and studs always call to me. The overall vibe a bag has is important too.

    9) Are trends important to you? If everyone is getting the new handbag from Michael Kors...do you want it too?
I don't think trends necessarily work like that. Yes, there are IT bags, but a trend is more something that many different designers try to cash in on. Some trends I like, some I don't. If it is a color, then I might go for it. If it is something that will look dated within a year, then I would rather invest my money elsewhere.

    10) How would you rank the importance of the following accessory purchase characteristics?
    2- Quality,
    9- Uniqueness,
    3- Price,
    11- The experience,
    8- Story behind accessory,
    10- Trend,
    1- Function,
5- Tactile feeling of the accessory,
    4- Color,
    6- Form,
    7- Perceived value,
    12- Celebrity status
