Sad Replica Versus Fakes? Rich VS Poor? Warning...rant...

Info needed ladies...I was perusing this website for information about bags in general and found this page,

Designer Replica Handbags - LoveToKnow Handbags

Read through it. Is this true? Are some replicas illegal and others legal? I don't understand. And the two sites they link to from that article for replica bags seem to be copying the logos exactly of the designers they are 'replicating', which to me doesn't seem like it should be legal.

As much as I'd love to own a Louis Vuitton multicolore or something like that, I know I will never own one. I am just too poor. I buy bags that are not copy bags, but may have a similar design, but not the designer logo.

I guess that would make me a trashy person with a fake bag, but if there are legal replicas of LV I'd love to own one. Does this make me a bad person? Because I think buying handbags in thrift stores because I'm poor is just not fun. I'd like a nice bag, brand new, from a nice store.

Another thing I wanted to point out was the obvious rich vs poor gap on this board. It has been at the back of my mind that people do save up for a long time to get a nice bag that they love, but not as long as I'll probably have to save to get my $200+ mini Dooney Bubble. Think in years; it'll probably take me a whole year or two to get that Dooney. My month's rent is $430 Canadian and I'm disabled. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever have enough money to buy a house or a car, or if I'll ever have a nice job that can afford me the luxuries other people have.

Also, I read on here people saying how they hate fakes and people with fakes are so jealous and trashy.

I AM jealous! And I think some of the people here don't realize just how blessed they are. Don't get me wrong, I love all you girls and wouldn't trade you for all those stuffed up losers in the world who support child labor and illegal purse trafficking just to have the latest trend. You guys have hearts! But I just can't connect here because it seems like I'm alone in having a no-name brand purse collection, however small it may be. I don't even KNOW if my bags were made by kids, probably, but maybe not I do have a few Made In Canada/USA purses...I don't know!

Are there any other people with low income status on this board? I'd really like to feel less alone. Poor people love handbags too.

Sorry, getting off my soap box now.

Aww... sweetie, don't feel bad! Okay... here's the truth about replica bags. They are not okay if they are trying to pass them off as the real thing. That is illegal. Also, using another company's logo, whether it is openly admitted that it is a fake, is still illegal. It is copyright infringement. So what is okay? A brand that is inspired by a look of a designer and they make their own design that "feels" like the bag that inspired it. Does that make sense? An example of this is Liz Claiborne and Louis Vuitton. Liz made a line that resembled the Damier print. It was a light tan and dark brown checker board pattern. But the pattern was much tinier than the Damier. Then they had the LC logo scattered in about in the squares. The styles of the bags didn't really resemble anything from the Damier line though. They came up with their own styles. Does that help some?
As for being poor... I just filed my tax return. I made just over $13,000 last year. Ouch! I'm married though... but my husband doesn't make a ton of money either. We are both still going to school... so I guess that has something to do with it. As for me and buying designer purses... I don't buy a whole lot. LOL! I love all of the bags and I love to look at them... but I don't buy them all because I obviously can't afford it. But if there is something that I really want... I save up my money for it. I try to find stuff on sale when I can. I've gotten Dooney before for 50% off or more. Some brands never go on sale, like LV. I only own one LV right now... and my husband got it for me for Christmas. I really want another one... but I think the next one will have to come off of ebay.
I hope this makes you feel better. And I doubt the other girls on here are trying to make you feel bad. We are all very fortunate in our own way.

Oh... so I guess it is okay to be poor and still hate fake handbags. I hate fakes and I would never buy one. I'd rather go without if I can't afford it.

I totally agree with BoysRSmelly..... 1. Boys ARE Smelly :D and 2. There is no need to feel like you don't belong here..... If I had all the money in the world, I would HAVE all the bags I want.... but I don't.... I'm a broke student living off my parents.... When I can obtain a bag I want it's awesome, but most of the time i'm just an admirer of designer bags.... I just see them online and think, wow.... i wish I had it.... It's ok to be an admirer.... I am.... and this blog is all about info. on the latest styles and trends when it comes to handbags and more.... You won't get kicked off if you don't have the latest hottest bag.... Don't be sad.... and it's true what B.R.Smelly said.... Each and EVERY ONE of us is blessed in a way.... trust me, sooo many people have it a lot worst.... and In My Opinion.... I personally don't like fakes, and I think it's unfair to those who buy the real thing.... but there are always least expensive name brand bags that are a lot nicer to carry around.... and their authentic.... for example... Guess bags.... Some are nice... So... Don't feel bad... Blog and Admire all the lovely bags.... and who knows.... Maybe you'll win one of Jennifer's contest.... trust me, she gives awesome stuff!!!! Maybe you'll win the awesome Dooney.... just have fun... this blog is awesome...

strangeseperah (I think I spelled that right), don't feel bad, i'm probably poorer than you. i am trying to save up to buy another Dooney (i got one for my birthday 2 years ago) and i currently only have that one and an XOXO bag. It's all i afford. I don't want to buy a fake bag either. So, just so you know, you're not alone. :D

Aww Honey! They are just bags. Who cares what you carry. Forget about saving for a bag and treat yourself to something nice, like a high-interest savings account. Boring, I know. But in a few years, you'll be able to buy a car, or many bags...or a down-payment for a house....

Strangeseraph, I know where you're coming from! I was always jealous of the girls I knew who had designer accessories in college. In high school, for the most part, I wouldn't even have recognized a designer bag even if the logo was printed all over it. I really resented the kids who were given cars, especially new cars for their 16th birthdays, and I pretty much transferred my opinion about those kids to the girls with the LV bags in college. I grew up securely middle class and I would never even had dreamed of asking my parents for a luxury object, nor would they have considered giving me one.

I'm probably considered low income as an adult, I still depend on my parents to help with a couple neccessities, like a room to live in and food when I'm at home. So yeah, I just got my first and only designer bag a couple days ago, and it's a Dooney & Bourke that was about 40% off. Mostly I'm just window shopping and hoping that eventually I will have the kind of extra cash to buy non-essentials.

I don't want to cast stones, but I don't think very highly of the young people who are snooty about things like all the designer purses they own, when they only have them because mommy and daddy spoil them. I saw a forum like that the other day, with girls who seemed like 14 year olds one-upping each other with comments like "I have 8 Louis Vuittons!" "Well I have 10!" and "I WDNT NEVER CARRY A COACH BAG CUZ THR TRASHY!!1111" If a 16 year old is saving all her money from an after school job all year for a designer bag, that's great, but I don't think that's what most of the girls I see running around with them did. Again, I wouldn't look down on a girl whose parents buy her things like that if she was humble about it.

As for replicas, I think they're unfair to the people who do work hard to save for a special luxury item, and they're unfair to the craftsmen who create the real thing. There's no shame in carrying a cute Fossil bag, or a plain tote. There are plenty of affordable and adorable bags out there that will still bring in the compliments!

Now I'll get down off of *my* soapbox.

Definitely well said. People seem to forget that there are thousands of handbags out there, that are not designer, that look great. Look at Club Monaco's bags. They are fantastic and are rarely higher that $149 (although some may still find this a tad much). I feel that if you have great personal style, you can carry off anything...be it designer, knock-off or just plain original. I do not agree at all with buying knock-offs because for the most part, they are made buy those being exploited by slave labour, or are funded by terrorists (scary!).
