    Question Would you keep this?

As some of you may already know from my "MS" thread (Introduce yourself area), I won a Loewe Amazona purse worth $1950. Ms If you go there, you will find pictures of it. All it will cost me is the federal taxes on its value.

I am really torn on whether I should sell it or keep it. (Right now it is listed locally on Craigs list, but I am 99% certain no one will buy it. And I guess I may keep it if it doesn't sell.) Hubby is still pressuring me to try Ebay. I do like this purse a lot, but feel I could like a cheaper purse just as much. This one is so expensive I could never carry it to work, since it would get dirty. And I am not a very "dressy" person.

How would you all feel if you won this particular purse? What would you do? Is this a worthwhile purse to keep? Is it a bit too expensive? Not pretty enough for the price? Is it too prone to water damage and dirt? And would you even buy a purse this expensive? Please be honest.

I will keep this site in mind kmarney1 . It seems like that stuff is all used. From what I read, they get 25-35% of the sale price. And I am wondering if I would just keep it if I wasn't gonna have a lot of money left after taxes, fees, and insured shipping. (would be less than $900) Besides I like to deal locally.

Well I will let it sit on Craigs list along with all my other good deals that aren't selling. What kills me about craigs list is that folks want to pay pennies on the dollar for new merchandise still in their boxes. For example, I listed a $200 drum stick package. The biggest offer I got was $25 which is what only one of those sealed 15 items would sell for. Another person wanted to trade a used $125 speaker set for my brand new $460 cymbals. And those were my best offers. What are they? A bunch of kiddies trading their possessions and counting their stacks of pennies? I suspect so... LOL...

Still wondering how other folks would handle this situatuation. I keep going back and forth. Sell, no keep, no sell... LOL....

Candes, here is my 2 cents.

It is a beautiful bag, but to be honest i have never heard of that brand name nor would i invest that kind of money on that bag. I would prefer to sell it and get some other bag that i truly love.

It is a beautiful bag no doubt, but the suede makes it pretty impractical for even a reasonable amount of use. At that price even the smallest of scuffs or stains would give me a heart-attack!!

Good luck with your sale. I doubt you will ever sell it through Craigs List. Try some high end consignment store or websites like ebay, designer social and avelle.

    good Luck.

Thank you for your honesty! Your sentiments mirror mine. I love purses but am not a true aficionado like many here. So your opinion means a lot. Just in case I can't sell it, do they sell raincoats for purses? LOL... Jus kiddin!

    Thanx again!

candes. Designer Social does carry new bags and they do receive 25% for listing and acting as the go between with you and the buyer. It certainly would not hurt to try as there is no fee for placing the listing. Ebay has a rather large international audience and this is a Spanish brand so it might attract more interest there. Although it is highly unlikely you would receive full price for it. Ebayers are definitely bargain shoppers. You will either want to list it as a fixed price, reserved or make an offer. This will make the rates higher, so keep in mind that once you sell it on ebay, your fees along with the paypal fees which is required will probably run you in the neighborhood of 15 - 20% plus you have to make sure that when you ship it is completely insured and protected in case of an unscrupulous buyer. I agree, it is unlikely you would sell it on Craigs list. It's simply not a well known brand amongst the mass audiences in the US. Good luck! I guess the advice for the rest of us is to make sure that you really want the bag when you enter a contest and you are willing to pay taxes on it.

OOh also I forgot to say, I'd keep it! Love the bag. You can protect the suede with a special spray and I think they do have raincoats.... I've heard of them but haven't looked into it... But, if you know you won't carry and don't want to pay the high taxes, then by all means sell it for more than the taxes and take the difference and get yourself a free bag that you will carry all the time! :)

This is so funny kmarney1. I never saw your second post until I came back to post this. But I adore this impractical purse. And I think it is a "deal" for a few hundred or so in taxes. This is all it really cost me, not $2000. Would I pay $300 for this? Definately, so what is my problem? I think I need to chill and forget this was ever a $2000 purse. So if my tiny bit of effort in selling doesn't pan out, then I will be fine with it.

On a funny note, posting on craigs list got me some fun with a "certified check" scammer. My response?

If not in town, I only deal with gold bullion. And I also require that it be shipped to me first. Upon certification that the gold is real, by an expert, I will ship your item. I also require $100 in extra gold to cover my time and expenses. And of course enough gold to cover the shipping. Do you by chance have any gold bricks laying around? It may be easier to just send me one, and I will mail you your change. Oh yeah, and if you send a gold brick, can you send a chisel and a mallet too, so I can send your change.
I haven't heard back, so I guess I won't be getting rich quick. The one before that didn't want to buy my rare albino cat rat either. I even had the bleach and razor ready... Here kitty kitty....

AhHAHA. love it! You have to post the response, if there is any. hehe.

And that bag.. are you crazy? That bag is hot! He's a keeper!

On another note, so do you really have to claim something once you won it?

Do you have your bag collection posted on here? I would really like to see. Do you have others like it? What I mean to say is, are you set on parting ways?

No, my collection is nothing special. I have been trying to win more purses though. LOL.... Prizes are reported to the IRS by the sponsor with a 1099 form! Imagine paying the taxes on a $20000 trip to Scotland! OUCH!!! But I have to remember that was all inclusive for 4 people at a resort that royalty stayed at, The Gleneagles. (Where was that purse then huh? LOL...) The taxes were less than I would spend on a vacation for 2 people.

Oh and the scammer replied, and so did I.

    > I want you to realize that I'm a serious buyer and I told you in my
    > previous mail that I'm purchasing this item on behalf of my client. etc... etc.... ect...

    My response:

Well, I am serious too. Anyways, it is too late now. The cymbals just sold! You need to be quick since my items sell fast.

Yup you missed a great deal! But I still have a rare 7 leaf clover from chernobyl. It will arrive with a certificate of authenticty, in a lead lined container. And I will throw in a geiger counter for free since I won't need it anymore.
