Givenchy Nightingale vs BCBGeneration Lulu



The Nightingale is perhaps the most famous and well recognized handbag ever produced by Givenchy. It has been spotted on the arms of countless celebrities including Ashley Olsen, Heidi Klum, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian, Ashley Tisdale, and Nicole Richie. Even President Obama's senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, snatched one of these babies up! Talk about carrying your work around with you in style! It certainly has become an iconic piece. So you can probably imagine my horror when I stumbled across this bag made by BCBGeneration (the diffusion line of BCBGMAXAZRIA). It is called the Lulu Satchel. Doesn't it bear an odd resemblence to the Givenchy Nightingale? The general shape, the handles, the placement of the seams... the only difference I see is that the upper corners on the BCBGeneration bag appear to be stiffer than those on the Nightingale. Coincidence? I seriously doubt it. But even Marc Jacobs said that being copied by someone else is the highest form of flattery. So I guess, Givenchy, you should be flattered! You will find, however, that the BCBGeneration bag lands at a much lower price point than the average Nightingale. The copycat is made of PVC and it retails for only $118.

Don't hate me, but I don't see the similarity. I guess there are some features that look similar, like the front + stitch and extra fabric piece under where the strap meets the bag, but that's just basic design.

I mean it's not as bad as others out there, like these..

I like both bags, but the texture of the BCBG appeals more to me

They look similar to me. LOL! When I saw it in the store, I was like WTH? I don't think it looks as much like the Nightingale in this picture though. Maybe it's the angle or something.

I also kind of like the BCBG bag! Although, the Nightingale, omg, such a gorgeous bag. So lucky you have one Jen!

That's happened to me before too. Where the bag looks so much different online from in store. It's like, darn it, why didn't I just take a picture of it at the store. lol.
