Default Husbands view on your bag purchases ...

This is only my second post.

Just wanted to see how everyones SO relates to their bag obsession.

Do they support your habbit or is it something that they just don't understand?

If they don't understand why is that and what have you done to explain your love for bags?

My husband does not understand at all! :) We both worked hard for our money and every now and then I like to spoil myself but since we have a child…he thinks I should cut it with the splurges and buy cheaper purses. To me, it is not about buying just “designer” expensive purses; if it has good quality and I like the bag then I will I get it.
    Constantly on that grind...

Since I can go overboard with my shopping, DH and I have established a rule early on. Any bag below $500, no discussion needed as long as it's cash or paid immediately back if using CC.
Above that, we talk about it first before making a decision. First up is the cost, next is if it's functional ie will I use it often and third, is it just like or really love the bag.
It may seem dictatorial but believe me, I need someone to be a buffer (opposite of enabler??) in shopping. In other aspects DH is the most easygoing guy ever He is fine with me buying bags as long as it doesn't go overboard, in fact he bought me my LV NF for our anniversary
I actually take his opinions on which bag to buy seriously as he has pretty good taste.
In terms of the spending, sometimes I do feel bad as DH doesn't have any vices or things that he splurge on except for travel and sports (LFC and tennis). These are passions that I share with him so whatever he buys or where ever he goes, I go and use it too
He doesn't smoke, drink alcohol, gamble or Heaven forbid 'play' around; he's not into tech stuff, games, cars let alone fashion, I buy all his clothes and shoes. It does rein me in a bit, as I can see I spend a hell of a lot more than him esp since we bring in the same amount on our paychecks.

Eh... Mr BRS doesn't like the fact that I have a thing for handbags. If he had it his way I'd have one cheap bag that I carry forever and ever. To him, it's just a stupid bag. I haven't really been buying very many new ones since I've been in school. But he has come to accept the ones currently in my collection and if I space my new purchases out enough, he comes to terms with those as well.

I am the financial planner in our home and i am very watchful of what we spend.
I do indulge in handbags (especially lately), but well within our means.

My DH is one of the sweetest guys ever. He would not bat an eyelid even if i bought a diamond necklace by myself! He too is not into anything fashion, but has an excellent taste in handbags and helps me pick my bags if i ask him to.

He does not spend anything on himself and most of the clothes in his wardrobe are on my insistence. He could not care less if it is name brand or not. the only thing he is particular about is the shoes and that too he buys only one pair at a time and buys the next only when it wears out. I generally buy most of his clothes. My wardrobe is about 5 times DH's wardrobe size

My DH's philosophy is that you only have one life to live. If small things make you happy (as long as they are not bad for health), indulge in it. He believes saving money is important, but to keep in mind that you are not going to be taking it anywhere once you are gone from this world. he also believes in giving to charities whenever you have the opportunity and means to do so.

^^Your wardrobe sounds like mine FU! Although you sound like you're a lot more responsible with your finances than I am Forgot to add that a new RM MAB at full price in US is equivalent to a month's starting salary for a graduate of engineering in my home country (after currency conversion but not adding import tax yet) and LV NF MM is equivalent to a month of a junior doctor's paycheck (though when I was a junior doctor, it was more than 2 months worth! Donkey years ago though)
This is why DH and I agree that big purchases above a certain amount must be discussed first

    Thanks everyone for your replies

This is kind of my husband too. I haven't really brought any bags since before we were married about a year and half ago. But its a different situation once you are married and sharing finances.

Well my Hubby is very different he likes to look good weather its designer or not (but he does prefer designer). He doesn't get mad when I buy bags unless I got over board then he just says I'm on a band for a while but I feel bad and return them (which is why my collection is so small) so he doesn't really get mad he excepts my obsession but he also has his own car obsession which I understand. I also am the financial planner at our house (but we do a lot of saving to buy what we want first). so over all he doesn't really mind my purchases if it is in our means (I love my DH his is so understanding!)

My hubby lets me buy my LV bags because he knows its my obsession.

Beside, my purchases for this year would still not amount to one of his panerais. (He is a paneresti, by the way)

Im scheduled to get one for christmas.

My hubby has pretty much learned to accept the obsession, lol. Sometimes he'll bring me back down to earth if he knows I really won't use the bag.. which I'm thankful for.. But he really doesn't mind as long as bills are paid & food is on the table!

This is a great thread. My husband is the one who got me into handbags so he really doesn't complain much. Lately he's been a little annoyed by it because it seems like I'm getting a new one every other month but he still gives me his opinions and helps me decide when I need him to. I'm lucky that he understands Idk what I would do if I had a man that thought I was crazy to spend thousands on handbags.

He hates it when I buy a new purse -- he doesn't understand why I cannot just use a $30.00 purse !!!!!

I wish I could say that I had one of those wonderful husbands. Luckily, it sounds as though those of you that have them, appreciate them. I hate it when women have great husbands and don't seem to appreciate it. My guy is great about most things, but he doesn't understand my love of handags. It's OK though, he's not mean about it or anything and I've got my things too.
