What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
For me, both inside and outside of the bag is important while purchasing the bag. as i carry so many items inside my bags to office, i also prefer a bag with number of compartments.

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
I prefer a purse/bag that zippers or snaps -- I like my purse/bag to be closed as much as possible -
Pockets are definitely a plus !!

Of course, zippers are important to prevent things drop off the bag. Do you like short or long handles?

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
For me, being a mom, shoulder length handles are a must. Not really a fan of hand held bags, which is why I never bought the Speedy even though I
the bag.
I use bag liners which has tons of pockets so don't really mind if there's only one internal compartment but compartments externally is a plus. It's not a deal breaker as long handles are though. Which is why I still love my NF even though it has no external pockets.
I'm more drawn to totes and hobos though, don't really like satchels or east west bags.
These are design requirements for me, quality leather and materials; and impeccable workmanship are two other musts for me.
This is my idea of the perfect bag

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
I look for long handles, so it can be used on the shoulder. Although i bought an RM MAM without shoulder strap, i can get a strap later. Also, The weight of the bag makes a BIG difference to me. I don't like bags that are super heavy when empty. By the time you add your stuff, the weight is killing.

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
I'm not too particular about the internal compartments but prefer to have at least one zippered one which most bags do have. The deal clincher would be a gorgeous lining such as the Coach legacy or RM black and white floral or even some of MJ's more whimsical linings.
Extras that would be nice are hooks for attaching keys like the one in LV bags, cell pockets and a magnetic closure at the top. Not too fond of zippered ones as they are a PITA to open and close everytime you need to take something out.
I use Chameleon bag liner that already has tons of slots for my things, that being the reason I don't need to have inbuilt compartments.
The liner also protect the bag's lining from getting dirty, makes it easy for me to change bags AND since mine has a removable base, it can make a bag be more structured
When I want my bag to be slouchy, I just remove the base. I totally love the convenience it affords meCURRENT LUST LIST:

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
I don't care too much about compartments. I do like a zippered wall pocket and maybe a cell phone pocket. I like smaller bags, ones that fit snugly under my arm. I don't have a preference either way about a zippered top or a magnetic snap top or a flap closure. I suppose I pay more attention to the overall look of the bag rather than tiny details.

Yeah, but most of the women love design of the bags. tiny details of the inner design of the bags are considered by people who are taking their bags for particular purpose.
When it comes to compartments of the bag, i prefer at least 2-3 compartments to carry my belongings and lunch-box to office

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
This first thing that comes to my mind is, when buying a bag, how easy is it to open. I hate those bags with a hard zip or difficult button that needs an hour to open! For me a bag must be "easy": easy to open, easy to throw stuff inside...!

I look for the design, the quality of the zipper (if it has one) and the price (of course).

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
Non-negotiable is that it must close securely (zipper or strong snap) because I've lost things from open/tote styles before.
It must be the right size for what I need to carry (I don't like the look of either overstuffed or nearly empty bags), and light weight (shoulder problems), and have a cellphone pocket so my phone doesn't get scuffed.
I used to prefer bags with card slots/money pockets so I didn't need a wallet but lately I've been using a wallet.
I also used to like lots of dividers to keep things neatly organized but right now I'm carrying mostly hobo styles.

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
frbspa-- I'm loving your BBag!!! (TDF)
I like bags with nice leathers, pockets to keep things organized (and not loose my keys and cell)
I like the top to have some kind of closure, but I tend to carry pouches to keep things organized, and also I love when they have and extra strap so I can use it as a messenger bag.

Re: What do you look for while purchasing your bags?
The first thing that catches my attention is the size. It should be medium-sized. Next is the color - I prefer brown over everything else. Then the price tag. And lastly, the zippers. I always test the zippers whether they can handle my strong grip and pull. =)
