I only thought about customs because I had them ask me about -- guess what-- a handbag! ... one time when I came back from overseas. Also, once, my mom got busted trying to sneak extra stuff into the country, haha. They take away all your stuff and you have to pay a mega-fine. They know what stuff costs! So if you take a couple of nice, newish, expensive bags overseas, and you go somewhere like France or Italy where you could very well have bought the bags, you might have trouble. And, you could easily blow through your entire customs allowance with one LV. I think it's only like $500 or something before you have to pay taxes.

I keep the tags and receipts technically because I'm very sentimental... LOL... Also, it will come in handy if you decide to sell your bag...

I agree with Juicy - i keep them, so in case I want to sell bags/accessories I have them for more proof that they're authentic.

Wow.. cool thanks so much for the advice! I never keep the tags... usually just the dust bag to protect the bags when I'm not using it. But wow, customs! I would never have thought of that... i didnt know you had to pay customs for a bag bought in France or Italy. A few years ago, when we were visiting both countries, we left from France though, a few people who came with us bought LV bags from Milan. I dont remember them having to pay custom taxes... but i think they put it their suitcase and didnt declare (opps!!!).

But thanks for the tip!! Will remember to carry the tag and receipt when I carry my bag abroad!

Thanks so much, u gals!! :)

I agree with your friend for keeping everything. Specially if you travel a lot and you use your bag. I remember when I went to Venice the police there are very strict. If you're caught with a fake bag you get fine some absurd amount.

I keep all the tags, care books, receipts and anything else related to the sale. I have an accordion file and keep them organized by brand/designer.

Since I don't really travel overseas, it's not for Customs. I guess I do it more for resell, insurance, and repairs should I ever need to send in a bag. I can prove where/when it was purchased.

Last December i purchased a handbag from the Dooney outlet and the Manager of the store removed all the tags before i got it. he was doing the same with other customers purchases. Is that the norm??
The only proof of authenticity I have other than the bag itself is my credit card statement.

I save all of my stuff for insurance reasons...or in case i want to sell one...can't they tell if a bag is real or not...I'd be so mad if someone thought my purse was fake at an airport or something...they should have someone who can look out for certain things to make sure a purse is fake or real...people can't keep paperwork with them all the time...and what about the ppl who buy purses used...what are they supposed to do??

What? I would have said I wanted those! I'm really not sure if this is normal practice though...

That was one of my first designer bag purchases Jenn, so i did not know any better.
Now, i would definitely ask for them.
I wonder why they were doing that though?

^^^ Probably to discourage people from turning around and selling the bags on ebay for a profit.
