I kind of mix and match too. Sometimes for me it's a sentimental beauty in doing so.

This is just a random thought that came about from reading your response... I usually save any money gifts I have towards a designer bag purchase. I'm not even that into jewelry. I also don't expect any premier purchases from anyone, not even from my DH (I feel guilty to spend someone else's hard earned money like that).

    Thanks so much for posting.

I do this too. Any cash/gift cards I get from Christmas or my birthday I put towards a purse.

My relatives have finally accepted that I am perfectly happy receiving a small cash amount for presents (I usually get around $10-15 from each relative). I think they finally realized that if I use the money they gave me, the purse does come from them! Plus, I know the purse I buy will last longer (and have more sentimental value for me) than anything I could buy with a gift card to Target or a game store or something.

Given the choice I'd rather have two Premier Designer bags for $4,000 then 4 or 5 Designer bags, but if i liked the designer bags more, then i might i get 2 or 3 designer bags, and one premier designer bag, it depends which i like more, but i would be more likely to get the premier designer bags. Why? Because i know that I'm getting quality and a bag that will last me season after season. Also i tend to like designs by premier designers more then i like designer designs, they in my opinion tend to be better. Now that's not to say that designer designs aren't good and they aren't equally as talented as premier designers. I'd rather have quality then quantity, i don't change my bag all the time, as matter of fact I've carrying the same bag for 1+ year now, because it's such a classic design. This bag fits quite well into my lifestyle, and i can dress it up or down, and i love how it makes whatever I'm wearing instantly look better. And the two designer bags i do have, interestingly enough one is Premier Designer and the other is Designer. I tend to go for the classics no matter what, since a lot to just some it varies from season to season, of the so-called "in" or "it" bags are ridiculously unwearable or just flat-out ugly, and should carry the tag-line of "Who in their right mind who carry or wear this?" or soooooo trendy, they'll be in this season and this season only, so when i do go for a trendy or it bag, i have to really love it and it has to be something special, and it has to be wearable and it does in a way have to transcend this seasons trends, if that makes any sense. And even if it is a trendy bag, if i really love it, I'll carry it season after season, because as the old saying goes "What goes around, comes right back around".

Hmm... Bex, yours must be softer than mine because we've been together for 10 years now and he still has a heart attack every time I get a new bag (which isn't very often).

My bag collection has been pared way down over the past 3 years.
I think hard about what I buy so I would say I have premier designer on one hand, complemented by not even designer bags for weekends.
So, I'm from one extreme to the other.

    Good post!
I totally feel the same way, unfortunately I can't rock loud colors or very trendy designs Back to topic, I usually choose my bags based on its design, functionality, quality and longevity. More often that not and very distressing to my bank account, it's a premier designer
But, if I find all these requirements in a designer bag (which I have) it's mine

Of course may not necessarily be true but, I've been thinking that-->

    premier designer:
    inspires more careful selection?
inspires choice of classic over trendy?
    smaller collection, less clutter?
makes me think black, brown, ivory, white

    designer:
    trendier, may be less timeless?
funkier colors and designs? (not in a bad sense)
potential for bigger collection (more affordable?)
    more clutter?
flexibilty to match colorful wardrobe without use of black, brown, ivory, white

May be that years of exposure to marketing and advertisements in mags, etc. have led me to think this way?

So far it's designer for me, but I'd love to someday follow Kanmp's strategy.

It's a strategy that makes a lot of sense. I was curious if anyone sided strongly with one over the other.

Well mine saw me hanging out here and a few days ago he asked me which purse I was really wanting .. I went to Eluxury and showed him the Monty and the Sprouse Roses Speedy and Totebag . He said they are really nice , he can see me getting the Monty for about 800 but said the Sprouse was too expensive ... Yes we have made headway but he thinks over 1000 is toooo much !!

With increased exposure/influence, people start to think differently about pricing. A little sad but true. I remember a time when I thought a bag over $250 was starting to be A LOT. Not that it's nothing but I think you know what I mean.

Hehe, it happened to me too. I used to think I could never spend more than $100 on a bag but now I think $100 is a "reasonable" price for a bag.
