Thread: Gucci Handbag: Please help authenticate purse!

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, just joined today but have been reading through it as a guest for a while. I purchased a vintage Gucci clutch at an estate sale and I am dying to find out if it is real. It seems to be from the 50s and the people were pretty affluent so I have high hopes. The pictures make it look almost white but the true color is tan. Should I be alarmed that two bags in the same style have the same serial number? And what do these serial number mean (date/style/location)? Can any vintage collectors tell me if there are any red flags?

This GAC looks good to me. You don't have to worry about the same serial numbers. Sometimes, they do tend to have the same. :) Congrats on your buy and do your well to restore it :) It seems to have lost the GG medallion/insignia in front of the bag though.

Thank you so much, but are you sure this is GAC? I thought GAC was usually printed in gold lettering on the inside flap. My bag and the other bag have a gold plaque "Gucci made in Italy" and neither have the GG medallion. I have my work cut out for me, but it's worth it for such a bargain! My first Gucci bag!!! Doing a happy dance!!!

Can someone please authenticate this vintage Gucci bag? The seller is making no claims of authenticity and therefore will not guarantee authenticity.

Yes, I did contact the seller. She bought the bag second-hand and cannot guarantee authenticity. Thank you for the link showing vintage stamps. The picture of the bag in this auction shows a stamp where the "B" in BY is touching the "G" in Gucci and your examples the letters never touch. Any idea how to date this bag if there's no serial number?

Hi I am new to the forum... I bought a boston vintage web on ebay, it had a money back guarantee and all and has a receipt too... when I got it I thought it looked good, but when I inspected the bag it had a different serial number to the bag that was in the photo, making me think I got a different bag... I don't mind getting a different bag cos its so pretty so as long as its authentic... I just need help on authenticating as I haven't been collecting Gucci long (have collected LVs for 10 years)... Please help, I am desperate :)

PS- The seller is willing to refund too.. but if its authentic I will keep it.

Hi again guys, can anyone else give me an opinion on the Gucci bag I posted? Castira (authenticator) got back to me just now and they said that it doesnt appear to be an authentic Gucci because the model/production code font and hardware are incorrect?

Please give me some insight as I am freaking out and extremely disappointed...

I just bought this vintage Gucci bag on eBay. It may be difficult to authenticate though because the inside of the bag is in bad shape (thus the gold Gucci stamp is gone).
