OMG! You have to tell us EVERY little detail! I mean everything! Like what was it like having the procedure done? Do you still have to be strapped down and your eyeball held open? Or is it different now? Wasn't it awful having your cornea sliced? I want to know!!!! LOL!

Oh... glad to see that you're back! And I'm glad you're happy with your results!

Oh... glad to see that you're back! And I'm glad you're happy with your results!

The day of the consultation, they showed me around the surgery room. I had no contacts/glasses on and they took me to the reclining seat (where I would lay down during the surgery), and the doctor told me... "as soon as you sit up and stand up off the recliner, the first thing you will see will be that clock over there" he pointed to a wall on the left side of the room, and I responded "what clock? I can't see it!" and he said... "Yeah, i know. But you will"...Keep in mind my vision was extremely bad. I was a -9.50 on one eye, and a -10.00 on the other!!! After the 2 minute surgery (I swear it took that long), the doctor told me to sit up as he helped me stand up, and he said... "open your eyes, look to your left, tell me what time it is"... I teared up and remarked... "it's 2:13"!! it was sooo emotional!!!

The procedure itself was quick! It was really uncomfortable, but painless!! My mother and sister were watching the procedure through a flatscreen tv and they were freaking out because of the cutting, rubbing, and touching of my eyes. It was sort of like some crazy laser light show... bright and in your face... plus the doctor was playing techno-ish music in the surgery room... But yes, I was freaking out a bit, especially since everything was soo quick. There was also some burning smell, I remember that... Was it burning flesh?? IDK... Hmm.... now I wonder. Overall, def. worth it and I recommend anyone who has considered Lasik to go for it!!!

Oh wow! So it was really freaky, huh? See that's what I'm afraid of. I don't like the idea of having my eyes poked, sliced, and what have you. It just totally creeps me out... plus I'm a really big chicken when it comes to stuff like that. LOL! But thank you so much for sharing! Maybe when I have money someday I'll consider it again. Glad everything went well for you. I'm sure with all of the advances they have made that things are much different now than when Lasik was new (remember I said my friend's mom had it done probably 15 years ago).

Seeing how my contact prescription is still not right after 5 months of fiddling with it, I think I'm going to ask about it. Still makes me claustrophobic to think about it, though.

Glad it all went great for you.

So happy it went well for you! They don't tell you about that smell though do they? I remember that vividly but maybe us blind girls develop a really good sense of smell to make up for the bad eyesight.
I had it done 8 years ago, I was a -11.50 and -12, so I had nothing at all to lose.
I started crying when the doctor asked me what time it was and I was able to tell him.
The only discomfort I remember is putting the drops in the eyes for the first 2 days after - it stung a bit then not after that.
If you're on the fence about it, I will go on record as saying that short of the miracle of having 2 children, this is the best thing I have done for myself.
    So happy for you Viva!
