    Default I started eating more...

I asked The-Guy for advice on gaining weight, and for the last couple weeks I've been doing everything, and I still can't gain any weight. I've actually lost weight. Im at the point where its unhealthy, and those words came from my doctor. Its not good...

Anyone on here ever had this problem?? Idk what to do anymore.

have you asked them to run any tests on you? you should have them check your thyroid, or other issues that might be causing this... endocrinologists are good for metabolism issues. it seems like there could be an issue since you are losing weight even while eating.

Ongoing weight loss usually is a sign that something is "off" in the body. Are there other symptoms? I wouldn't waste my time with a primary care physician. I would go to an endocrinologist and a gastroenterologist and get tested for everything they think could be causing the weight loss.

What exactly have you been doing?! I mean...how can you lose weight when consuming more calories?! Have you been counting your caloric intake? SOmething dont sound right....

Im stumped. I think you should go see a nutritionist girlie and also listen to the girls bout gettin checked up.

PM me what youve been doing down to the T (what youve been eating, exercising, ect.)

^ i honestly think this is not a matter of diet but that something else is going on with you. not trying to scare you, i just have done a lot of reading myself because i was having some issues -- i was gaining weight while breastfeeding which is totally opposite, and i hadn't changed my diet. turned out i have Hashimoto's thyroid disease which is an underactive thyroid.

endocrinologists and gastroenterologists are your best bet. i'm sort of surprised that your primary care doctor hasn't suggested this to you already. you might need to find a better primary care physician.

GUY, you're making the (potentially dangerous) assumption that she's losing weight because of lack of calories or excess burning of calories. It could be so, but before embarking on a weight gain program, one should first be determine why the person is losing weight and whether there's an underlying medical reason for it. Unprovoked, ongoing weight loss is a symptom of something else. A nutritionist is NOT the person to see in this case. Any doctor can run a CBC to look for abnormalities in the blood cell counts (if any), whether or not an infection could be present and if the person is anemic or not, and a metabollic panel (another blood test) to check for cholesterol, protein, vitamins, minerals, fats and glucose, levels, among others. An endocrinologist can run tests to determine hormone levels and see how the glands are working. A gastro can look into the digestive system and see if there's an absorption problem.

The Guy- Your advice was great, btw. Thats what everyone else including my doc told me to do. But, I was at 105lbs, and now im at 99... and for my height, I was underweight before I started losing.

I've always ran, every morning, so I continue to do that, and I've been doing push-ups every morning & night.
My breakfast consists of a protein shake (not sure what kind, its something my friend gave me).
I eat a lot of steak and chicken for dinner, and breads, pasta, etc. I listened GUY! lol.

My mom tries to tell me its just my metabolism, but Im worried it could be something more... My doctor told me he would refer me to a endocrinologist... Im just rly worried on what could come from it

First off...why would you be jogging if youre trying to gain weight?..that's a no no.

secondly, You need a real breakfast instead of just having a protein shake. I usually take protein shakes in between meals..kinda like right before working out or after working out. Or if youre trying to gain weight...you can take it as a "snack".

Anywho, go see the endocrinologist and keep us updated.Im sure all this can be fixed once you find out the result.

don't be too worried -- worrying about it and avoiding seeing a specialist because you're afraid of the outcome is even worse than whatever the outcome could possibly be. it might turn out to be a minor problem such as an overactive thyroid -- do you have other symptoms such as fatigue, etc.?

anyway, please see the specialist. from what we have heard and the fact that you are worried it could be something more (nobody's metabolism is THAT great to where you will LOSE weight even when eating that much) there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by seeing a specialist.

At 105 lbs or 99 lbs, and going down, you probably shouldn't be running every morning and doing push-ups every morning at night. You're overtraining. I was into running and weight lifting for over 15 years, so I'm familiar with this, believe me. You also shouldn't be drinking a protein shake whose contents you don't understand. Some have ingredients that stimulate your adrenals to (allegedly) speed up your metabolism and help you lose fat. Furthermore, the type of highly concentrated protein often is extremely hard to digest for the average person, women in particular. Go to a specialist. You'll be fine either way because if it's nothing, then all you'll have to do is change your diet (with food) and cut down on the exercises (for god's sake!). If it's something, then it can be dealt with and you will be relieved.

best advice is to go to the endocrinologist, sounds like a thyroid problem to me, but I'm not giving any assumptions, better get it checked sooner though rather than later... Good luck!!!

Im jogging to try to make sure I can pass the running portion of the pt testing thing for the military! Lol.. but, maybe ill cut down... it just makes me feel better if i run in the mornings... And, the only reason im drinking the shakes in the morning is b/c i didnt used to eat breakfast, but ill start with them between meals. and, the protein shakes im drinking are good, i just cant think of the name- ill have to post it when im home later.

    Thanks again for the helpeveryone!

OMG I do, too! My younger sister had a baaad goiter when we were a lot younger, and I used to say her neck looked like a frog. lol Since my siblings and my mom have it, that's how they found out I did, too.

Yeah, so maybe you're hyperthyroid, daniellelynn?
