Oooh, I love tofu, especially with spices and chillie. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to give this a go.

Okay, stupid question. But I was always afraid to eat tofu because I heard it could increase your risk of bladder cancer. Is that true?

From what I've read, it seems whole soy, like tofu, is good for you, but soy supplements & highly processed soy products are the potentially bad ones.

Hmm. Not sure about soy chips. Right now I'm finding mostly things like
Soy supplements and powders can contain individual soy components (soy protein, isoflavones, etc.) in amounts that greatly exceed what is found in whole soy foods such as tofu and soybeans
and lots of articles on soy & soy-based things being used to try to combat cancers. I'm mostly seeing negative things only about supplements, and consuming too much soy.
Sorry, I don't know much on this, myself.

It's okay. So just supplements and stuff like that? I guess you could probably eat too much soy if that's all you ate though... day in and day out.
The reason I ask is because my husband actually likes the soy milk called Silk. Neither of us are vegetarians, but I thought maybe we shouldn't eat so much red meat because it's not good for you. He has to have meat at least twice a day, so I think it might be hard.

We eat meat also bRs, but trying to eat healthier. We subsitute when we can, like the taco soup. I've had it with the groung burger, but when I made it with the Boca, it actually was tastier, lighter and healthier.

I've tried the Silk.... it's ok in my coffee but being a diabetic, 2% milk is one of the best snacks I can have: equally balanced with carbs, protein, and sugars.

OMG! You're diabetic and you can drink 2% milk? My parents are both borderline and they are supposed to be trying to control things with diet and (yeah, right) exercise. My mom said they were only allowed to have skim milk.

I'm type 1, have been for about 24 years. (2 shots a day) One of the biggest mistakes ppl make when their blood sugar goes low is grab a reg. soda or OJ. WAY too much sugar with no balance. The milk is perfectly balanced. and skim for borderlines is mainly for weight control. I hope they're doing good. If they need any recipes let me know. You do need to let them know that cinnamon is like the miracle spice for diabetics!!! Helps blood circulation. I put it on everything I can. Tell them to stay away from the Splenda, it's an altered form of sugar. NOT GOOD!!

They actually take cinnamon supplements and chromium. I think its helping them a little bit. My mom has a problem with the drugs though. They always seem to upset her stomach and one of them actually damaged her liver so the doctor switched her. I told her she probably didn't need to drugs if she would just eat right and exercise and take some supplements. Oh well...

Peppermint tea. Best for upsetting stomach (and cramps lol) But try and get a natural blend with Hibiscus.

Tea - Bigelow Tea > Green Tea, Herbal Tea, Decaf Tea, Tea Gifts, Tea Gift Boxes, Tea Gift Baskets good stuff!!

My friend is a dietician and told me that so many doctors tell their diabetic patients that they can't have sugar. She told me it wasn't sugar that they needed to watch as much as carbs. She said carbs are what spike your blood sugar. She also said that diabetics don't need to look for foods with no added sugar, because it doesn't really matter as long as you're not eating too many carbs, because sugars in carbs are what are worse.

Have you heard that before? Just wondering because I didn't until she told me that.

Type 2 can do the sugars in moderation, but yes in all cases the carbs are what kill a bloodsugar reading.

On a side note... bananas and corn.. bad news. And a potato can hurt bloodsugar worse than an brownie!!!!
