    Default Blood Drive

I went to give blood earlier today for the first time, and everything went ok and they told me my arm may bruise and stuff like that, but my arm is bruised really badly, and not just where the needle was... Have any of you had that happen before? Just wondering if its normal to bruise pretty badly... none of my friends have ever had it happen, and it kinda scared me a little bit.

you should be fine...if you are worried put some neosporin around where the needle went in...

I gave blood twice in my life... My high school nhs blood drive and then on September 11 ( I waited 10 hours that day...)

Both times I got really sick ... Faint and weak so I haven't given any blood since...

    Sounds pretty normal to me...
Do you generally bruise pretty easily?

I know lots of people that that has happened to. They all just bruised easily, that's all. I don't bruise when giving blood or having a sample taken... but I do get sharp pains that run up my arm afterwards.

I normally don't bruise easily, but this needle was pretty big... or at least it seemed like it at the time.. Lol. I didn't get sick or anything, which was surprising. Thanks though, I worry a little too much about these things. :)

i have never give blood before but one can only expect with the amount of blood being drawn, some damage is bound to be done. everybody's body reacts differently, but this doesn't sound too abnormal. i hope your arm feels better!

    i've never given blood before.

when i was in high school, i remember how all of the "cool" kids would donate blood so they would get a better high off whatever drugs they were doing and becuase it would take less booze to mess them up. seriously, how pathetic is that?

That's awful!! When I was in HS, the only kids that donated blood were in National Honor Society ... everyone else thought it was sooo gross.

It's a good idea to donate, though. The red cross keeps track of who donates and stuff and I hear (although it is not confirmed) that it is easier to recieve blood should you need it from the red cross if you are a donor.

A few of my family members have been in accidents and needed blood... so, I will do all that I can to help out others... its not too much pain to go through to help save people.. i just didn't expect all the bruising. :) But, know i know what happens i wont be surprised next time.

Maybe just save your blood donations for the winter when you wear long sleeved shirts...that way you don't have to worry about the bruising ...
