I have a treadmill that I hardly ever use. It's a nice one actually, with power incline and a wide tread. But my knees hurt and my hips hurt... I feel like an old lady. LOL! My doctor said it would probably be a good idea if I didn't run. So I was thinking maybe getting an elliptical to replace the treadmill. How does everyone else feel about them? Does anyone own one? Do you like it?
I wasn't planning on spending a ton of money on one if I did decide to go for it, but I don't want a crappy one either. Any suggestions?
Someone gave me one once. I don't remember what kind it was so I can't suggest any but I do it remember it was fun and easy on your knees. Sorry, I'm not much help! Have you been looking at any?

If love is the answer, what is the question?
I've only used one @ the gym. I prefer ellipticals over treadmills myself. It's not as boring as walking, maybe it's just me. I've never owned one either, so I can't suggest any brands.

Yes, we were looking at a Life Fitness one. We can get a used one for about $1000. They are the same thing that they use in gyms, but they cost $3,000 to $4,000 new. We tried some Nordic Track ones too, but they seemed so cheaply made. I've heard people say they aren't as good quality now that they have moved their factories to China and Taiwan.
Anway, I like the rear wheel ones better than the front wheel ones. I'm just afraid of them putting you up too high. It would be going in our basement and our ceiling is only 7 feet high down there. Don't want to bonk my head!
So this used one that this company supposedly has is at another one of their stores in another state. They said that they would ship it here for free... but they didn't specify whether or not you had to buy it in order for them to ship it here for free. Mr BRS wants to go ask them about to tomorrow because he'd really like to see it before buying it. They did say they might take our treadmill as a partial trade though.
Ellipticals are great. I mostly train during classes or lift weights but when I use the elliptical machine (once a week) I love the way I feel after the whole work out I get.
I think they are better on the knees as far as running on a treadmill goes, but have you tried just walking on the treadmill at a high incline? I personally like that better because it works the back of my legs where I need it the most. But, if you want that feel of running the eliptical is the way to go.
^^^ Our treadmill has a power incline and I have used it on different settings. Walking is okay, but it doesn't seem to be doing it for me anymore. KWIM?
So I guess Mr BRS wants to go for it. They said that we'd need to buy it to have it sent to our local store. But they also said that we could look at it once it arrived and then we could return it if it wasn't what we were wanting. I guess they have a 15 day, money back guarantee policy.
Well, we have a treadmill and it was very bad on my DH's knees and back since he is pretty tall, and the doctor told him not to be on it.
we got an exercise bike instead and it has worked well so far. The brand we bought was proform. Not top of the line, but a steady durable machine with all basic functions.
Good luck with your elliptical.
