Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
How awful. I hope everything goes well I don't exactly remember how I felt since it was so long ago, but I'm sure it wasn't the happiest moment in my life.
I do remember my mouth was swollen and my tongue was numb for like 2 or 3 days.

Do not spit or use straws for anything as they can give you dry sockets! Stay away from those
Quote:
Dry socket (alveolar osteitis) is a temporary dental condition that sometimes occurs after extraction of a permanent adult tooth. Dry socket occurs when the blood clot at the site of the tooth extraction is dislodged, exposing underlying bone and nerves and causing increasing pain.
Dry socket is the most common complication following tooth extractions, such as the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. When it occurs, dry socket usually strikes one to three days after a tooth extraction. The most common hallmark of dry socket is significant pain.

Sorry Jess, that sounds painful. DH got his taken out a couple of years ago, he went through a lot and he was in a lot of pain because he got a dry socket. See you don't supposed to rinse your mouth or spit and he did so it was very painful, he did not eat any solids for like three weeks, he was also eating too little. The first time the poor thing was able to eat was soo happy. He ate so much, I remember we got pizza and he was
Everyone is different and some people I know have healed in just a few days with no complications whatsoever. I am sure you will be fine, best of luck lilstrlett!!

Not only I never got mine I am also missing a molar in my upper right side that never came out. Beat that BRS!!
I was getting a cleaning and the new hygienist asked me "How did you loose that tooth?" I was like wait, what? It just never came out. I hope our dentist are right because I do not want mine to ever come out. I am 29 so I don't think I will ever get them anyway.

Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
^Oh yeah. Avoid straws/sucking/spitting. I didn't get dry sockets, but my sister did, and it took her twice as long to heal. When you need to spit, (I know this is gross) but just let the spit run out of your mouth, lol. Or use a syringe to suck it out.
Also, rinse your mouth out with salt water as much as possible.

Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
Haha all this advice is making me nervous... but also helping!
I really don't want to get dry sockets. Everyone keeps telling me horror stories about them!
I am glad though that I have an excuse to eat all of the mashed potatoes, ice cream, soft foods that I love!

Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
Ok ladies (and GUY) - the day is tomorrow... and I'm totally nervous. As you know, I'm such a baby, and already thinking about what's going to happen when they put me under.
I got some mushy food - mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, italian ice, soup. I don't know what else to eat, but apparently I can't eat anything hot tomorrow, so anything yummy will have to wait a day or so. I have a feeling I'm not going to want to eat anyways.
Wish me luck!!

Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
You'll do great. I had them out in high school and lived on ice cream for a couple of days. The worst part is waking up from the surgery because you're groggy. No biggie. And I'm a huge baby!

Re: Wisdom Teeth - June 18th
Don't worry lil, you'll be fine. Mr BRS had his out (he actually had some ) and he was fine. His face wasn't even all that swollen after the first day, which was good. Good luck!
