Thread: Any thoughts on sick symptoms?

So of course it is Friday night and the doctor's office is closed.
My 6 yr. old daughter went from having a double ear ache on Tues/Wed and sore throat to now having a fever and blood shot eyes, with eye goop. Any thoughts? The fever is at 101 and maintaining with Tylenol.
She was exposed to the chicken pox early last week. Anyone have any thoughts?

My niece had sort of the same symptoms last week. High fever, ear ache, sore throat, soreness, dizziness. She ended up going to the hospital just to be safe...they said she had an ear infection or something and sent her home with Tylenol & tried to reduce her fever.

Yeah, an ear infection can cause a sore throat if the ears begin draining. Not sure about the eyes though, unless it's made its way into the sinuses.

Not sure if your doctor's office have an answering/beeping service? If you are still so concerned, it warrants a call through their regular number; maybe you can reach your regular MD or on-call MD? If it's an emergency, take her to the hospital. A kid's fever tends to run higher than an adult's, especially since the infection is still there. Not sure when she was last seen by the reg. MD but generally better for a fever to subside within 2-3 days until low-grade than normal. If there's sweating, the fever is beginning to "break." Change her clothes to keep her dry. Is this her first exposure to chicken pox or not? Do you see anything on her skin, pox "blisters"? A bed bath or quick shower can be relaxing/comforting. Hopefully she's not eating anything too heavy- big meals make fevers worse and of course lots of fluids help; Ginger Ale is good when there's lack of appetite but consult with a MD if there's vomitting involved. Hope everything turns out well.

I'm guessing the infection has spread, into the sinuses. It's spring, lots of crud in the air. The tear ducts get all goopy with a bad infection, and I'm going to just guess that the blood shot eyes are from 1 of 2 things... the pressure built up in her sinuses or her possibly rubbing her eyes and just being poopy from being sick in the 1st place.

Do you have a 24 hr clinic? She needs antibiotics.

Sometimes, chicken pox blisters don't show when you first get it. I don't know what to tell you. What medication is she taking, if any? There's some all-natural antibiotics, if she isn't taking any. Like, I eat cloves of garlic which is a natural antibiotic when I get sick (I don't believe in conventional medicine).

Also, I just had another thought. If she is taking a medication, maybe she's allergic to it? Just a thought.

Poor little pumpkin! I hope you can find one of those medical centers that are open beyond regular hours.
Sounds like she needs some antibiotics.

How is she doing today?

Well, we figured out what she has.... Chicken pox!!! Argh! Let the scratching begin. She slept for over 16 hours and then woke up with massive blotches. Poor baby! I told her that the cool thing about chicken pox is that you get to eat ice cream everyday~

Ice cream? Thats for tonsils LOL.

So do they not require chicken pox immunizations where you live? They require it to get into grade school here now that they have a vaccine available. Gosh, I remember when the chicken pox was just something you got when you were a kid... not anymore though.
