    Default Allergies Help

I have searched everywhere on the web and I can't find any information (other than generic drug info). I know you guys probably don't know, but I'm going to ask anyway. I used to take Chlor-Trimeton for my allergies. Last spring it simply disappeared from the store shelves. I have tried a zillion different allergy medications and nothing works. Let's see... Benedryl, Claritin, Clarinex, Singulair, Allegra, and a variety of nose sprays that I don't remember the names of. Out of frustration, I just started taking Zyrtec even though it never really worked all that great. As the months went by though, I started becoming chronically tired and then I started having those asthma-like symptoms. The doctor at school pretty much ignored me and just threw an inhaler at me. I was so tired of feeling tired all the time that I stopped taking the Zyrtec a few days ago. Now I'm itching... EVERYWHERE! My arms, neck, back, and even my tongue! I just don't know what to do! I sneeze uncontrollably all the time, but I have no clue what it is that I'm allergic to. I sneeze at home, at school, in the car, at work, when I'm outside. It doesn't matter! Mr BRS has dubbed me "Snots". ::sigh:: I just don't know what to do anymore. It looks like they sell my old medication online, but when you go to the site it shows it being out of stock. What can I do? I can't afford an allergist. My SIL went to one and it cost $1800!

It's okay Zombs. I've had allergies all my life, but it was nothing compared to this. I just don't understand what it wrong. I mean, you would think that if it was something in my environment that my symptoms would go away if I went somewhere else, but they don't. My mom said her allergies were really bad in her twenties too. IDK...

    Yuck, that really sucks!

I do know that it is good to take a teaspoon of "local" honey everyday to help with allergies. Something about the spores in the honey help with the allergy immunity but it has to be local to you for it to work.

Take a look at Chlorphenamine on Wikipedia which I believe is the Generic name for the Chlor-Trimeton. It does list some other brand names you might want to investigate.
I would point out that I'm no doctor, just a fellow sufferer.
    Good luck with your search.

brs, I would go to the doctor. I know it's expensive and it sucks but you don't want to develop any really bad respiratory symptoms. I wouldnt go to the allergist though I would go to a regular MD first. I know it's expensive but sometimes that's just what we have to do.

^^^ Most of what I had tried before was under my regular doctor when I still had insurance. I really don't know what else they could do for me. I'm supposed to see the school doctor though since that is what part of my tuition is for. It might be a few months before I even have enough money to pay a doctor's bill though. We are really behind on bills right now and I simply don't have the money.

Yes, it used to be available under all kinds of different names. I have looked for several of them, but most stores literally only have 4 things: Claritin, Alavert (same as Claritin), Benedryl, and Sinutab. I think there are some combo medicines out there that are labeled for use with colds. They contain other stuff in them for congestion and coughing. I have seen this brand at a couple of places in the 4 mg, but I was taking the 12 mg! LOL! I'd be downing a box a day!

I thought that still sold that. I know that a lot of the medication has been removed from the shelves and put behind the pharmacy counter. Did you check with them yet to see if they had it?

Done...I think...Until I find something that catches my eye

Do you have a low-income clinic available in your area? I used to go to the health department when I was in college ... you bring your w-2 or a letter from your employer regarding your pay and then services are rendered based on a sliding-fee scale. When they prescribe you stuff, they usually just give you the samples right there for free.

Have you tried NAET? NAET - Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques are alternative allergy medications used to reduce or eliminate allergy and disease

I can testify to how it works. It was a lifesaver for me and my dd.

You would look under "practioners" and see who is the closest in your area.
NAET is a non-evasive allergy elimination technique. Much like a chiropractor in thier skills, but different. I was on shots until I was 16. At that point I said enough and suffered for the next 10 years. I stumbled on NAET while visiting a chiropractor after a car accident. I finally went to him a year later because I really wanted ice-cream but couldn't have it. My throat would close up. So I went in totally wary, but after two times with him, I can eat dairy. And yes, ICE-CREAM! From there I did peanuts, mold, grass, radiation, Vitamin A and several others.
And it is a lot less expensive than an allergist that wants to charge $1,000 to poke you with needles and then continue poking with needles.
Anyway, it's worth the research. I swear by it. My son was deathly allergic to peanuts and isn't any more. It took us 5 times but we got it taken care of.

I forgot to add... when you go in the first time, they are able to arm test you to figure out what you are allergic to. Again, I was a sceptic until they started running the tests and were 100% accurate and I never said a word about what my allergies were.
