Dont worry. Id imagine that because you've developed asthma now, it wont be as serious as those who suffer from an early age. And the fact that you will only have the first type of inhaler shows that your doctor doesn't see it as a serious problem. If your anything like me then you will only need to use your inhaler when certain allergies crop up, such as dust, or when your suffering from some type of illness.

ROFL! No, it's okay. I still haven't even made it over to the pharmacy yet. I have been so freaking busy the last few days.

Yeah he didn't act like it was a really big deal. He just said to try it and if it didn't help then to come back. ::shrugs:: I seem to only experience an attack after I was exposed to a mega dose of allergens though.

I just wanted to update everyone on my little asthma situation. I have since switched to a different allergy medication and my symptoms have gotten way better. Believe it or not, I think it was the Zyrtec that was the problem. Anyway, I still have the inhaler handy. It is just for when I have sudden attacks anyway, but they seem to be few and far between now. I didn't get the chance to thank everyone for the information and advice, so I'm doing it now. And Gizmo, it seems like you know a bit about medicine. Thank you for all the useful information.

I haven't had it as an adult but I had it as a child. I outgrew it though, I only had an inhaler for like two years. If you don't want to use an inhaler I would suggest googling holistic methods to cure it. That's just my opinion.

    Edit:
Sorry, I just read your first post. Seems like your handling it well, I'm glad you've kind of found the cause.
If love is the answer, what is the question?

warhols__muse - I actually looked up the side effects of Zyrtec and apparently asthma symptoms is one of them. I was also sneezing and coughing uncontrollably when I was taking it. My symptoms are better now that I'm taking something else. The only problem is that it's the kind that only lasts 4 hours. So it tends to wear off when I'm in the middle of classes.

Man...I wonder if Zyrtec causes asthma type symptoms why they offer it OTC??? I don't think that's wise to let Americans self medicate with a potentially dangerous medicine...

I think it's because the health insurance companies looked at how much they woudl save if they didn't have to cover Zyrtec and others like it under their prescription drug coverage and then paid off the drug manufacturer to lobby the FDA to get it approved for OTC use.

THat's my conspiracy theory of the day...

LOL! Nashville, you may just be on to something!
But wait... what if they want it to cause asthma? Perhaps they think they will be able to profit by selling more inhalers through prescription if they let people load up on the Zyrtec OTC!!!! Mwhahahahahaha!

Insurance companies do NOT want to sell athsma meds. They want you to be PERFECTLY healthy. It's the drug manufacturers that want you to be sick...

My mom has athsma and it's VERY expensive ...

I wouldn't be shocked, I don't trust the FDA farther than I can throw them. I haven't taken any medications since I was 14 years old (I'm 23) other than OTC painkillers for hangovers and minor pains and I'm golden.
