Bag newbie on the radar!

Hello bagforum veterans,

I am new to this website and just a newbie in general to purse addictions. My earliest memory of designer handbags was when my family and I toured Europe in the summer of '03. We were in an LV store in Rome and a sales associate was serving us orange juice in wine glasses. I was 18 then and I didn't care for anything in the store, just that I was getting free OJ.

Freshman year of college, my parents and I got into a quarrel. Eventually it subsided. We were at an LV store and my mom said I could get anything from the store (I think as a symbol of our peace treaty). I chose these black, LV sneakers. I was 18 and still didn't care for LV, just that I was getting free sneakers.

Fast forward a couple of years to when I was 22. My family and I were going out for my mom's bday and she walked down the stairs with the limited edition LV Dentelle Fersen. I didn't know what it was then but I think it was my moment of epiphany. The intricacy, the detailing, the beauty of the bag was quite remarkable. From then on, I started paying more attention to designer handbags. I borrowed my mom's limited edition LV Mini Linda for my graduation party. I've also secretly borrowed her LV multicolor Speedy 30 hehehe. With her collection of about 6 LV bags, 2 Chanels, and others that I can't remember, she became my fashion icon.

I couldn't afford one of my own but I was still an LV admirer. Then my 23rd bday came. My dad asked my sister what I wanted her my bday. I had seen the Damier Azur Speedy in a magazine and thought it was gorgeous. I couldn't outright ask my parents for it since it was expensive and wouldn't feel right to directly ask my parents to get me something so pricey. So I told my sister that I simply wanted a bag, but I had my fingers crossed that my dad would get me the Speedy. During my bday dinner, my dad reached under the table and low and behold...out came the LV brown bag...with the Hampstead Azur PM:). Finally! One that I can call my own!

I'm now 24 and can afford my own. I make sure to not become too materialistic in desiring fleeting things. But the bags are more than bags to me. I'm lucky enough to be well taken care of by my parents and they continue to get me designer bags (black Chanel for my 24th bday), and the bags are a symbol of their hard work and always trying to give their daughters the best that they can. And so my growing collection continues to be a symbol of my own hard work. Let the collection grow!

*Hi ladies..

I've always searched about a huge & pretty bag, and this year actually I found DvF Stephanie Bag it's my dream bag but right now it's a littel expensive for me the price is 875$ (I'm trying to save money to get it later on)

And now I want a big one but cheaper than the DvF so I found The Nala Tote by GUESS, it's very very cheap just 98$ but I love it, it's a big pretty bag as I want , but it is made of synthetic leather :sCo_idk3:

Anyway, I just wanna take your opinion about GUESS handbags?

and your opinion especially about this bag!!

---Quote---
LOUIS VUITTON CELEBRATES L’EXCELLENCE DU SAVOIR-FAIRE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 150th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RED CROSS

17 November 2009 - Louis Vuitton organised an auction co-hosted by Sotheby’s London at its New Bond Street premises, where seven Special Orders, created by masters of savoir-faire, were sold for a total of £495,000.00.

All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Nigerien Red Cross Fighting Malnutrition Programme. This programme aims to contribute to the reduction of acute malnutrition and mortality of the most vulnerable population, including expectant and new mothers as well as young children under five.

The gala dinner was attended by Tasha de Vasconcelos, Gustavo Santaolalla, Bryan Ferry, Ferran Adria Acosta, Patrick-Louis Vuitton, Yves Carcelle and Antoine Arnault.

Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross by creating seven limited-edition Special Orders, made in the historical Asnières workshop that celebrates this year a century and a half of savoir-faire, tradition and innovation.

Louis Vuitton offered six masters of savoir-faire the opportunity to create a unique special order that embodies their exceptional expertise in their respective professions. The six personalities are: the chef Ferran Adrià, the artist Damien Hirst, the photographer Annie Leibovitz, the musician and composer Gustavo Santaolalla, the designer Marc Jacobs, Patrick-Louis Vuitton, the head of Louis Vuitton’s Special Orders department and a member of the fifth generation of the Vuitton family. To commemorate the event, Louis Vuitton has crafted a limited-edition Red Cross medical trunk.

“We are very proud to collaborate with the Red Cross on such an iconic occasion and to offer our support to this exceptional association which for the past 150 years has played a major role in the fight against the instability of this world”, says Yves Carcelle, Chairman & CEO of Louis Vuitton.

Cheyenne Westphal, Sotheby’s Chairman of Contemporary Art Europe, commented: “The money realised at tonight's gala dinner charity auction is testament to the generosity and skill of each of the six personalities involved and the global luxury brand Louis Vuitton, who collaborated to produce each unique special order. The sum achieved this evening will benefit the Red Cross for their programme ‘Fight Against Malnutrition in Niger’ and Sotheby’s is delighted to have been able to play a role in raising those funds.”
