Default What does it mean when the tag number is snipped?

One of my daughter's many bags was a gift from her Godmother (who LOVES sending her bags & all kinds of stuff). It's a D&B crocodile leather satchel. I have no clue if it's real or not (don't like D&B bags for myself personally) but the inside tag with the code on it is snipped in the middle?? Does that mean it was a "second" or something?? Let me know what you think?? Is it a fake? Here are some pics of it! Thanks for your help in advance!

It means it came from an outlet or discount store. This is how Dooney ensures that the bags they send off to be sold at a discount are not being returned to a department store. The salesperson at a department store will usually look for this to make sure the customer isn't trying to pull one over on them. LOL! There are people out there that make a profession out of defrauding retail stores. If it has a cut tag, then they know not to return the bag.

Ahhh OK! That makes sense! Does that mean it's any "less" of a bag though? Just curious!

No, I don't think so... it was probably just a "last season" bag.

I have a Dooney that I purchased at their Outlet Store in San Marcos, Texas and it has the tag snipped. It was the small drawstring bag that I wanted for the longest time and I paid about half of what it did when it first came out. it's too small for me now and sits in my closet *sigh*.

Just to update this:

I was told that D&B has stopped snipping the tags now, since all there new bags have unique serial numbers for registration.
This snipping of the tag was the way that they would stop people from returning an "outlet bag" or a "seconded bag" to a store for a full return price.
That is why they went to the serial numbers.
Although, from what I was also told that some of the outlet stores are still snipping them out of habit.

It's amazing how much I learned about D&B since Christmas!
And how much of the Zebra line I have bought for my wife!

Yes, this is what I was talking about. A department store would know not to accept the bag as a return if it had a snipped tag because this meant it came from an outlet or discount store (e.g. TJ Maxx). There are some sneaky people out there that make a profession out of screwing department stores. I know... I work at a store and we have to be careful of people trying to return items. Especially ones that allegedly came from another one of our stores.

Interesting! I don't recall that my large gym bag from the Orlando Outlet had a snipped tag. I'm sick if the IT bags due to the massive amount of people, especially little girls with them, I feel like I like 5 when I use my IT bags, but I can not pass up my gym bag, its too perfect. And it is my teenage bag, the first bag i got was a dooney bucket at 16 from my dad and my mom bought me the large gym bag for getting straight a's my senior year and gave it to me as a surprise on the way home on the airplane from florida to visit my boyfriend. It's zipper is broken and i've yet to get around to returning it to Dooney to be fixed, because even though I am more interested in other brands now, that bag still has a lot of life left in it and i love it, plus it totes around so much I can't part with it!
