It is not a scam. Coach was sued by a customer after they asked to see her ID when she was buying something with a credit card. She claims they recorded the information on the ID which is illegal. They can ask to see secondary ID for a credit/debit card transaction but you cannot store/write down/copy the information. She filed a class action lawsuit to cover anyone else who may have had the same experience. Rather than go to court over it, Coach conceded to a settlement and the discount is the settlement agreement.

It was only sent to customers in CA and can only be used in CA.

Sandy, if you are in the class of settlement, they will send you a voucher/card like one of the attachment in this thread. I called woodclass action to see if i lost the card and they can mail me the replacement, but it was denied, coach only gave them enough copy for the settlement, no replacement available. If you don't get the card, which mean you are not the victim of the privacy issue. It's only for Californian, don't think you can use it at other states.

Welcome to the Wood v. Coach, Inc. Class Action Settlement Website

    Summary of Proposed Settlement

The parties have agreed on a proposed class action settlement of certain claims against Coach, Inc. ("Coach"). The settlement will resolve claims that Coach improperly requested address, phone number, or email information from certain customers at its stores in California. Coach denies these claims.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THIS WEBSITE CAREFULLY

The Superior Court of Contra Costa County, California, authorized this notice. It affects your legal rights. Please read carefully.

    The Purpose of the Notice

There is currently pending in the Superior Court, Contra Costa County, California, an action entitled Wood v. Coach, Inc., Case No. C-07-01146 (the "Action"). On July 30, 2008, Judge David B. Flinn tentatively approved a proposed settlement to the Action.

The Notice is intended (1) to inform you of the lawsuit, (2) to describe the Settlement and how you can receive your Settlement benefit, (3) to notify you of how your legal rights are affected, (4) to let you know of the upcoming approval hearing, and (5) to give you instructions on how to get additional information about the case and the Settlement.

    The Class is defined as:

All persons who (i) purchased merchandise with a credit card or debit card from a Coach store in California between May 23, 2006 and July 23, 2008 and (ii) for whom Coach, Inc. first recorded the personís address, telephone number, or email address during such purchase transaction.
Click here to read the full Notice.

    Settlement Benefit

If you are a member of the Settlement Class you will receive a summary notice in the mail that also serves as a Discount Voucher providing you 30% off a future purchase at any full-price Coach store in California. The Discount Voucher will be valid for six months from the date of final approval of the Settlement. At your option, you may exchange the Discount Voucher for a Credit Certificate entitling you to $25 off a future purchase, subject to certain limitations.

If you receive a Discount Voucher in the mail, please check this website after the November 12, 2008 final fairness hearing to learn when your Discount Voucher will be activated.

For more details about the case and important case documents, please review the Key Dates/Docs page, or use the Contact Us page to contact the Claims Administrator."

If you have the card you can use it anywhere in the US.

The class-action suit was only for California residents or people that purchased in California and were part of the suit.
