Cool Which do you prefer, Tote or Satchel?

Hey all~ Just curious to what style of bag is your Favorite and why? I would have to say for me, it would be Tote.Because it is more functional and is a shoulder bag!Having little one's, it makes life alot easier.I love the size of them as well as the double straps.Do you have a favorite and if so why?

Hi again. Sorry your post went unanswered until now. Oh, how I wish I had more time to read and post. Anyway, to answer your question - a big fat satchel would be so great because of all the room in it AND it seems very accessible and wide to get stuff out. Having a hard time getting to your wallet, etc. is a drag. BUT - I am just not the "carry a bag on my wrist" type.

Like you, I am a Mom (not to four though - bless your heart!) and need my hands for other things. I see lots of women carrying cross bodies lately and they are not for me and feel kind of weird over my neck.

I definitely like a tote with a decent length strap drop (always thinking of winter coat wearing). My favorite totes are medium to large sized without a center zip compartment. I am on the hunt for one for the Fall and not getting anywhere. Like you I have the striped white sig tote and I also have the same one in black/grey. They seem sort of summery to me so I am looking for the perfect Fall/Winter bag.

Usually I have to control myself with Coach but lately I've been having a hard time finding the right bag. I recently purchased an F15158 in black (sorry I am no good with pics but it's on google images). Haven't decided to cut the tags or not yet. Really nice black leather tote with silver hardware. Very roomy, interior is easily accessed to grab things, and the zipper closure does not come undone like so many other Coach totes (that have that jacket zipper). This zipper stops. I'm just afraid that it's a bit boxy looking and not really in style right now. Opinons appreciated.

I generally prefer Totes because easy access is a priority for me. In Coach I like the new Mia totes in patent for the winter. If I had money to spare, the new inlaid Mia tote in leather, suede, and pearlescent patent trim is lovely. These days my favorite totes have slim handles and a single large compartment inside.

Easy access and one large compartment are priorities for me, too, in totes. I was just doing some research and see that the 15158 tote I just purchased is considered a book bag. That's why it's so boxy looking. It's a North/South (vs. an East/West which is too small for me). Turns out if I leave the "F" out when searching eBay I get a few hits so it's easier to view pics. I don't know whether to keep it or not. I need the size of a book bag without it looking like one. Ugh - decisions.

Can't comment on the Mias yet since I haven't seen them IRL...........

I prefer Satchels, maybe because I'm so drawn to bags such as Audrey's and Sabrina's because they're so adorable. And since I never carry a lot in my bag (except in the Winter) I was never really drawn to totes. A lot of them are too tall or too wide to hold my essentials, or maybe because I just look horrible with them. Which is why I usually prefer hobos over totes, softer and slouchier which makes it more comfortable for me to wear (and usually the right size for me, too). I hate structured bags because to me, they feel awkward when I wear them on my shoulder and my arm's pressing against it. Then again I was never a real tote fan, and would never carry one unless I need to (like school, work, to the beach, etc).

Satchels are also uncomfortable when worn on the arm too, but I usually hate using the extra strap because like Sabrina and Audrey, they just look awkward. I have a pink floral embroidered Audrey which I love, but I rarely ever carry her using the long strap. I just leave it either attached under the bag or leave it inside the bag. I can actually fit the short handles on my shoulder, but since it's so close to my underarm it's just a bad idea to wear it there especially during hot days.

Anyway I prefer Satchels most of time. I've yet to find a tote that I like!
LUSTING: TREESJE Mini Magnolia or Asher (w/braided handle), Black/Gunmetal Jovi or Crimson

For me, i like the Gucci Satchel bag. Because i'm a little short, so i usually won't take the Tote, it is a larger for me. and the Satchel is just fine .

I have to admit, I have purchased my First real satchel style bag! It is the Madison Leather Sophia(Small in Black)..I really like having the option of carrying this bag with the handles or the strap:)It is also my first all leather bag and it is by far a great bag!

I'd always had bags with shoulder straps before last year, but a satchel with adequate size handles gives you three options--holding by the hands, forearm, or, in a pinch, the shoulder! I've definitely fallen in love with the satchel.

I love the totes BUT I have a few satchel's that I use for concerts and sports events. However, I just a a baby so I don't have another shoulder for my totes so I can only use a satchel for now.

I think the same as you on the crossbody styles..I don't like the feeling of the bag around my neck or across my chest. But so far, I'am liking my Sophia! I think I will start using the shoulder strap more:)I also love that my bag has the open compartment so that I can see everything when I go to grab something.I would say my bag is a small/medium size which is perfect for me:)I do have a large poppy glam tote in the khaki/gold op art! I just seemed to keep adding to it and it got too heavy and I also wanted a classy bag so to speak...I will be 41 on the 27th, so I thought why not an all leather satchel bag!Now as for your new black/silver tote..It sounds really nice and I love the fact that its not too big or too small. It sounds just right Congrat's on getting your new tote!

I think both have their own advantages but I personally prefer a tote for carrying lots of items.

For me...a satchel. My things seem to get lost in a tote. I can stay organized better with a satchel.
