sorry I'm having trouble getting the photos to upload, I'll have to take more photos and retry. OK, here goes.

The suspicious bits are: (1) messy stitching next to one of the buckles (shown in photo 3) and (2) glue residue on one of the inside seams.

So, is it authentic and can I keep it? Or is it from a sweatshop and do I have to send it back?

The "messy" stitching doesn't bother me. The creed looks alright and the "serial number" is consistent with what it should be (correct plant code and style number). According the the serial number, it was made in 1996. I have never heard of glue never being used. Considering that the bag is that old, could someone have tried repairing it?

I don't think it's a repair, the bag is in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear.

I was concerned because when I researched the glue issue, I found two online articles that said, glue residue is a warning sign of a fake Coach. The first one says, glue is a warning sign of a fake Coach but doesn't say that Coach NEVER used glue or that glue residue ALWAYS proves the bag is fake. This is in an ebay article Detect Authentic Coach vs Fake Coach Your Ebay Guide (I'm not able to post the link).

I couldn't find the second article (which said Coach NEVER used glue and that bags with glue were made in sweatshops) when I went back to look for it, but I did find articles that said Coach has used glue to construct hang tags and secure creed patches. So maybe the author of the second article was poorly informed.

My other vintage Coach bags are glue free, but who knows ...

Unless someone else has a different opinion, I'm going to keep and enjoy the bag. Thank you very much for your generous and reassuring help, the vintage handbag market is quite scary for a neophyte! I want to be able to use and enjoy my handbags without worrying that I've enslaved a twelve year old in Bangladesh.

What's on the interior pocket's zipper pull? That looks a little weird, but the picture is fuzzy. I've typically seen these with a circular metal pull on the inside.

The interior zipper pull consists of two unbroken brass (or brass-looking) circles joined by three oblong links. It has "YKK" on each side of the thingy where the zipper pull attaches to the zipper (this barely shows in picture 3).
It looks like the zipper pulls in my other Coach bags.

Ah I see. Sorry, the previous picture was blurry and it looked weird. Looks fine in the better pics you posted.

Honestly, I think the bag is okay. I don't see anything that would make me think it was fake.

    Default Is it Authentic?

I purchased this Coach handbag a few days ago. It's the Poppy Metallic Signature Fabric. There's an L after No. & an M after the last 5 numbers, which is No.L1271-18709M. I was coming on here to see if anyone knew where I could find this bag in a larger size. (this one is 11 3/4" x 10 3/4".) I just happened to look at the serial number & noticed the L & the M, which I've never seen on a Coach bag before. Is this bag fake or authentic?
    Thank you for your help,
    Patricia

    Default Authentic?

I picked up a Coach bag at a yardsale for resale. Before I sell it though, I would like to double-check that it is authentic. I would hate to resell a bag that was a knock off without knowledge.

I tried to go through the list of ways to determine. It does not have the YKK stamp on the zipper and I cannot seem to find the fabric online. Help?

How can you tell? That way I won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for the quick response! I really appreciate it.

For starters, the style number belongs to a Carly. Even if I didn't know that though, it is still easy to tell that this is fake. The lining is a dead giveaway. You would not see a lining like that on a signature bag. The lining should be plain. I also do not recall a signature print that looks like that. It looks really weird. The hardware is also a dead giveaway. Coach is stamped on everything. Real Coach bags might have "Coach" stamped on one piece, like a buckle. This has Coach plastered over the clip, fake turnlock, rivet, everything.

Default Is this real or fake?

Hello! I purchased a bag at a flea market last weekend and was wondering if you all could help me authenticate/identify the bag. The seller told me it was from the late 70s but from what I found online about the serial number I think that was misinformation. I paid $55. Was I taken for a sucker or did I get a good deal? I'd appreciate any info from the forum - style? age? authentic or fake? value? Thanks so much in advance!Coach bag 1.jpgCoach bag 2.jpgCoach bag 3.jpgCoach bag 4.jpg

Hi all! First off, thank you for providing this awesome resource -- I've learned a lot just in the past fifteen minutes of browsing.

Second, I wondered if y'all could help me verify a Coach bag I sourced today. It appears to be older; the leather is weathered and it has a gold Talon zipper. The serial number is 383-2627. I've attached some pictures, too.

    Thanks! :)

Hi the best thing to do is maybe show us a picture of it. You cant really tell from a description because you wont know but if you show a picture you can tell the obvious difference. If you really want a real one maybe go to the coach store and ask if it is real or even look it up online and compare it to one of the coach website. For future reference buy it at a coach store or Macys because those are real.

    Hope this helps =)
