I'm stumped by some of the well made fakes. I found a rather plain looking vintage-ish ergo mini purse, and its leather looks great, feels great. Stitching seems good. I get it home and the creed # isn't a match. I happen to own the same bag, auithentic, in a light blue color. Only after comparing them side by side could I find some discrepancies, but when standing alone, I wouldn't have guessed. Who goes to the trouble to make a NICE well made fake??? Even worse, the authentic one has the light blue dye rubbing off, doesn't feel as soft or as nice of a leather, I'd have thought IT was the fake. Makes me crazy.

How old is vintage-ish? At one time, serial numbers were unique to each bag (rather than being the style number that appears on all bag the same style).

they aren't quite that old. The Creed on the real one is J7D-9020..So October 97 ? It's made in USA. Structurally it's great like all the old USA bags were. The blue dye fade is sad looking. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I've already washed it and don't want to apple condition it yet.

oh ....the BLACK one says L5S-9965. It's the fake one. Which should be a Legacy Trail bag with a flap and turn lock

This coach tribeca patent leather tote, which i saw from an online store looks slightly different from the one i saw in the coach shop. This does not have buttons at both sides which are present in the bag in the coach shop. Does it mean it is not real, or does coach's design vary in different countries?

We can't really tell anything from a stock photo. What sort of online shop is this? There are a lot of websites claiming to sell authentic Coach, but they are really selling fakes.

    Thanks for the reply.
But does it mean that the bag is fake as long as the design is not similar to the one at the coach shop?
I am trying to learn to spot fake bags.
I am not actually thinking of getting it online, but i feel unjustified!

Is the bag the exact same style number? There are several Tribeca styles out there with different style numbers. I'm not sure what you saw in the Coach store.

I found this bag on ebay. It appears to be the same style as the first one you pictured. The style number is 14120 and they give the dimensions as 12.5" L x 9" H x 5" W. To me it seems like an EW style tote.
SALE! COACH Tribeca patent leather tote bag GOLD 14120 | eBay
It is different from the one you bought, which looks more like a NS style tote.

So I guess to answer your question, I would be suspicious if two bags are said to have the same style number but are different. It looks like you are looking at two different styles here. That doesn't mean the bag that you would actually get is authentic if you were to purchase the one in the first picture. Like I said, you should be wary of unauthorized dealers providing only stock photos of bags.

    Hi boysRsmelly, thanks!
Wow, you can even spot the difference between ew and ns bags!
    I am impressed.
Yes, mine is ns tote and the number is different 14119.
I am a noob when it comes to bags so i was not aware that there is a number in the bag until you mentioned it. Also i was not aware that mine is a ns tote until i checked my receipt.
Guess it is hard to tell real from fake, so i'd rather pay more and get it directly from the authorized store for peace of mind.

It is definitely difficult to know with only stock photos. Unfortunately, there are a lot of those types of sites out there. It is always better to buy from the Coach store. Sometimes you can find Coach marked down at department stores though. I love it when Dillards has an extra percentage off all their clearance merchandise, it usually includes their Coach if they have any that is marked down.
