Re: How to tell FAKE Chanel
Sorry to hear about your fake. If she doesn't return the money, small claims court is probably the way to go; I don't see the police getting involved in something like this. I hope you have proof of payment or a receipt or something.

Re: How to tell FAKE Chanel
How would you know that bag is fake if it weren't for the plastic on the handles? Just by the number? And what do you mean by "dog tag," do you mean poor replica of the authenticity card?
The quilting looks continuous on all the pieces, that's a hallmark of Chanel, isn't it? But the handle does look crooked, I guess that's a giveaway to a fake?

magnolia you're right about the quilting.. it's actually perfect on every bag.. all the diamond quilts should line up even with pockets and everything.. that's a sure fire way to tell a fake.. they hardly go through that kind of detail.

Another dead give away is that the authenticy card should NEVER have plastic covering.

Re: How to tell FAKE Chanel
Mostly, the hologram can indicate when the bag was produced.
For example, if the hologram has 8 digits starting with a 10, its from 2005-2006.
For the last couple of years, this method has been reliable:
2006-2007 11
2005-2006 10
2004-2005 9 (7 digits)
2003-2004 8
2002-2003 7
2001-2002 6
etc, etc....
The older chanel bags are a little more difficult. For example, the first holograms in the 80's started with a 0 and by the time the 1's came out it was already late 80's early 90's.
These #'s should ALWAYS match the Authenticity card!
*The number zero on newer hologram stickers should have a slash through it.
*The hologram sticker should be scored in a criss-cross patern.
* Hologram hint..... Beware of sellers who tell you a bag is new or just recently purchased when the hologram tells you otherwise. For example, if the seller recently said they purchased the bag, but the hologram begins with an 8 than there is a good chance the bag may be fake.
* Also beware of holograms that end in 5454 because this number has been mass produced on fakes.

Re: How to tell FAKE Chanel
Good info ladies! Sadly the majority of the ones on ebay are fake which is why I refuse to buy from ebay. They even use real pics of an authentic bag, but mail you a fake! last year I had to go through all these hoops with ebay and paypal to get my money back

Re: How to tell FAKE Chanel
Hi Everyone
New to this forum, but a great lover of handbags all the same.
Although I have some gorgeous designer bags, I haven't been fortunate enough yet to own a Chanel. One thing that drives me nuts is counterfeits. There is nothing like the real thing. Why waste your money on buying something that isn't the real deal? I cannot understand how people can support an illegal industry when Im sure they wouldn't appreciate people replicating their products had they owned their own company.
I have attached a photo of a wallet that I have deemed fake, someone please tell me I am right?!
