Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch

If you’re a Bottega Veneta fan, then you in for a big surprise once you check out one of their latest accessory pieces. It’s the Iridescent Nappa (leather) Beetle Clutch, a newbie to the upscale French couture house. The first question that came to mind was, why a beetle?! The second, where did this inspiration come from? With the little rain shower received in my neck of the woods, there has been an increase in the variety of arthropods that one sees. With that in mind, picking a favorite bug to adorn on my accessories is the least of my concern. Taking the giant beetle out of the picture and focus on the accessory itself, I actually like how this clutch reveals three roomy flat pockets and one zip compartment. I’d say this layout keeps you slightly more organized than a single compartment would. Of course, Veneta had to apply finishing touches of its infamous interwoven leather braiding, throughout the giant bug and the edgings. The price for this one-of-a-kind French accessory… that’ll be a whopping $1,980! Personally this BV bug clutch won’t do much for my personal style, but if the bug trend does bite one day, I’d say an embellished pin or charm would do the trick.

This clutch is not for me. Definitely not feeling the bug detail. I do think it's neat but not something I would wear.

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
Maybe without the beetle I would wear it. Maybe. I'd like to see it in person first without one, though. Otherwise it is something that I could never wear.

I actually like the beetle, I just don't like the design of the clutch. What's with all the flap things?

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
I wonder what kind of beetle it's supposed to be. I keep looking at it, but it doesn't look like any of the common members of the order (Coleoptera)... the head is unusually big. Maybe a scarab of some kind?

Maybe it's a Egyptian Scarabs,
, gees I have no idea. Do you think they really mirrored it after specific type? Or the designers just designed a general visual comparison.

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
Actually, before the beetle, that was the first thing that caught my eye -- the layered flaps!
For me, I like the interior design/multi-layered-ness of the clutch because it's actually functional. Pocket for phone - next for wallet or cards - then lipstick or lipgloss for the other. Well that's how I would organize things.
The exterior on the other hand, looks a bit floppy.
Ps. I have Not seen this bag in person. My opinion may change.

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
The layered flaps also caught my eye first. I'm not really sure what's going on there with them. I think if it was one simple flap and the beetle, it would be fine. The beetle doesn't really bother me, because if you're not paying attention and look quickly, it kind of just looks like a knot.

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
Yeah my first thought was that it was a scarab because I just looked at a book I had about beetles and I didn't see anything similar to this one...

Re: Bottega Veneta Iridescent Nappa Beetle Clutch
This is both really creative and really creepy crawly at the same time.

I mean a leather beetle, really detailed, it's very cool, but I wouldn't want a bug on my bag

Totally not for me!
And since I hate all the insects
I can not imagine myself carrying this bag

That is very odd. You could only carry that bag on one day of the year, Halloween. Unless you're Delia Deetz.
