Default Nail Polish

I have a few questions on nail polish application:

Do you do more than one coat?

Are you suppose to put a clear coat on? Will that prevent any chips from happening?

What brand do you use?

- I just discoverd Sally Jensen and it's awesome. My nails have lasted me like two whole days with no chips or anything. usually i end up with damage on like the first day.

Also, is black too goth? I love it but my BF doesn't. So I might just opt for a deep purple, lol! Right now mine are Honeymoon Red (Salley Jensen) and i love them!

oh, one more - do you have to match your toes with your finger nails?

Black isn't goth! I've worn it. O.P.I. is a really good brand. Usually I do 2 coats. I do the 1st coat...wait about an hour...then do a 2nd coat.

I think your toes should match your fingernails if they're a color. But I have my toes french tipped...so that will go with any color.

Okay, you should use a really good base coat first. I am not sure if you have heard of CHI polish before but it is amazing!! You should be able to find it at your local "Trade Secret" or a nice Salon. Then apply 2 smooth, thin coats of color then a fast drying top coat. If you have a Sally Beauty Supply they carry one called "Out The Door" that works really well. Another super fast top coat would be "Poshe"...it dries all the way thru in 5 minutes.

So here are the steps:
*Base Coat
*2 coats of color
*Top Coat

You can apply them all at once but make sure you keep them very thin and smooth. If you coat it on too thick it will never dry and then chip or peel off in a day or so.

There is a great natural nail treatment by Nailtek that you can use over and under polish! Nail Tek Product Line
HTH!

Just make sure you use a good base coat. It helps the polish stay on longer and fights stains on the nail plate from wearing dark or red polish.

If you use OPI they have a good "Natural Nail Base Coat". If you wear acrylics a base is not very important.
My favorite base is Nailtek's Formula II and Essie's Base and Ridgefiller.

ZG - I used to have acrylics but I took them off last week (I had them on for about a month). They ruined my nails!! Is there anything I can put on them to make them healthier?

Drills?

I took them off myself. Some eventually fell off...then the rest I soaked them in remover liquid and they came off that way. It hurt lol!

No, I mean when they put them on...did they use an electric drill on your nails? To file?

OOOh, that's bad Jess!! The drill takes way too many layers off of you nail plate. It will take you about 3 months for all of the damage to grow off. You can use Nailtek formula II everyother day and it will help quite a bit!
Can you go to a nice Salon (not a Nail salon) and get a manicure? Do they have any Aveda salons close by? Anyway you can follow up at home with the Nailtek and your nails will start looking better in a few weeks.
