    Default Bal Bag leather question

As I'm hoping to be a proud owner of a Bal Bag in the future, I've been avidly studying pics of Bal Bags.... my question is, why do some leather look veiny and others look thick and soft? Is it due to the year of the bag? If so, which years have soft leather? And are the soft leather ones more expensive? TIA!

Well, not every BBag has the same leather...like you said some are veiny, smooth and wrinklely. This is not true for every bag but most the '06 and '08 bags are more veiny and tend to be a little more dry and thin. Most of the smoother thicker bags are older BUT Fall '07 had some REALLY great leather. So, really it all depends! Hope that helps!

^^ Thanks again, Qualitycouture. That's really helpful. Now I understand why you said the years matter. I'll bear that in mind as I prefer the smoother leather.

As I'm thinking of the Emerald which is a colour from 06, it would probably be veiny so I should really think about Emerald from 03?

Well, like I said not all bags from '06 were veiny. You might be able to find a good '06 plus you could always get one and then condition it if is just a little dry and not super veiny. Not always but older bags are normally more expensive so keep that in mind, too!

Cool! Point noted. I'm getting $500 from DH cause he sold his laptop and thinks I deserve some of the cash. That's going into my Bal fund so I could potentially get one sooner!

when I'm buying handbags or other stuff, I don't only look for cheap prices. I always think how long does the product last.

Looking at the leather on 2004 and 2005, how were they different? which was thicker? I have a couple of 2007 which I like and want to get some of these talked about older bags. I'm thinking of getting a courier - were they made back then?

^^^ It's hard to make a generalized statement about leather, but the 05 bags I've had have had thicker leather in general than my 04s which tend to be thin, but very silky. I don't know when couriers went into production...
