Guide to Buying Authentic Balenciaga

Hi ladies (and Guy).

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to start a thread about buying authentic Balenciaga. It seems like a lot of are getting into the Bbag trend, and some of us need a little help determining how to spot a fake.

If anyone has any tips on leather, colors, date codes, styles, etc. please add to the thread so we can make sure no one here buys a fake

I still am not sure if I could tell a real one from a fake one just by looking at it - so I think I would have to stay away from eBay for a long time to make sure I didn't buy a fake one!

Great idea, lilstrlett. I'll post pic of an authentic bale to illustrate what a real one looks like. Also, the spacing on the metal tag is another giveaway. Some fake ones are too far apart or too close together.

I think I need help deciphering the date code on the tag. I tried figuring it out from the guide but I'm still lost.

^^Sorry, can't help with the code.

But here are pics of parts of an authentic Bal City. And the pics you would need to request from seller to determine authenticity:

Bale should have the dips on the shoulder. Fake ones tend to be more rectangular and smooth.

I know the first part of the code means it's a city, but what does the second part mean? I wish I knew more about Bal to be able to tell

Watch out for the fonts and spacing on the metal tag. Fake ones are either too close or too far apart. From 2005, there is a dot between Balenciaga and Paris. Pre-2005, it's an underscore.

Arianne, you should water mark your pics in case someone decides to "borrow" your pics.

thankyou! I really want a Bbag and this is helpful..their so much harder to authenticate, and to find real ones!

One other thing to look for is that on the bags, the top line of thread attaching the tag on the inside should be black; the other three sides of thread matching the color of the leather.

also, the notches on the underside of the ridges should be rounded, as in the pic on post #7 above
