Default eBay sellers with only stock photos?

I was looking at several eBay auctions and so many have only stock photos of the bags they are selling. If I was interested in the bag, I sent a question to the seller asking if they could post or send pictures of the actual bag and have yet to receive a response from any of them. Does anyone know if this is a question not allowed to be asked? If they aren't willing to show real time pictures, I am super hesitant and will not purchase. Am I wrong to expect this?

    Thanks!

Uhm no. I would stay far away from those listings, especially if you asked for pictures and received no response. I mean you just don't know what you'll be getting.

Thanks for the quick reply! :) I am thinking that if you have nothing to hide why would you not want to share this information, especially if you're only asking $20 or so under the full retail price of the bag? I would assume that most people wouldn't want to spend hundreds of dollars online without asking questions or wanting "proof" of sorts! It makes no sense to me but I'm new to auction purchasing of bags; I'm usually a "go to the store" purchaser and I'm trying to branch out a bit.

Yep, definitely stay away from stock photo-only auctions. They could be sending you anything. How would you ever know?

I finally got one to post "real" pictures! She was really nice about it too. It looks pretty good. I'm going to keep digging though and make as sure as possible that I've covered all of the bases.

Sure! I think the color is a bit off with the flash on patent leather but everything else I've researched to look for looks good. The serial matches, tissue covered handles, price tag attached correctly. She's also offering the receipt.

No , you are not. Sometimes they will import the bag after receiving orders . So it's hard to provide pictures of the bag .

Stock photo's is a loose term for photo's that can be purchased.

The photos that we see in magazines and on ebay are image photos. Nevertheless you should be receiving the item that you purchase. What we see in adds is never what we get anyway. It is just a display image for promotional use so why should seller on eBay be any different?

If they are a private seller and they are selling a high ticket item, they need to provide actual pictures of the bag. There is no reason not to. It helps the buyer make a better decision about their purchase. Plus if the seller does a bait and switch, at least there is some evidence (if the buyer saves the listing).

Hi there. This exact topic is what brought me here. I have been keeping an eye on Ebay for a Poppy Spotlight sequin bag (I let one get away from me at an outlet last year). So I emailed a lady asking for more pictures (she only has one stock pic). She emailed me back saying sorry she doesn't have any more pics but does have the serial number she can give me. So I emailed her back and said thanks for the response but I was hoping for better pictures of the exact purse since this looks like a stock pic. I didn't hear anything back so I guess I'm passing What do you all think of the situation?

I say it's better to be safe than sorry. If they don't want to provide pictures then that is a huge red flag. It isn't difficult to figure out the serial number for said bag, so them telling it to you doesn't really prove anything.

That's what I figured. I wasn't sure what Ebay's policy is on fakes and getting a refund. It's about to end and one of the better prices I've seen (though not by a huge amount so as to raise a red flag there). Blah I should have gotten the dang bag when I had it in hand LOL. It didn't have the strap so I passed.

I know how you feel. There are bags that I wish I would have gotten when I had the chance. Ebay has a policy against selling fakes and they will remove auctions if they see someone trying to sell fakes. If you pay through Paypal, you can file a complaint if an item is not "as described". It's a huge hassle though, I hate having to go through that.

Never ever buy a bag with a stock photo, I really became unstuck once and it took me weeks to convince paypal to give me a refund.
